There is still to much christianity mixed in with our laws. Many people aren't christians so lying on the bible is no problem. Perhaps they should take the oath with a lie detector instead. HA that would get a lot of people in trouble.

God do not need any evidence because he has given us his commandents. Why do people wants to compare God to humanistic reasoning when God is the creator of everything. The judicial system makes one take an oath with the bible as honest statements relating to certain facts. When one lies under oath they have committed a crime and prejury warrants sentencing.

There is actually plenty of evidence....in fact, Simon Greenleaf is generally considered to be the single greatest authority on legal evidences in history...And after an exhaustive review of the Biblical testimony, Greenleaf concluded that the Resurrection of Christ was an absolutely convincing reality. His decision was based on concrete and substantiated facts. In speaking of how he approached the evidence, he said (of “the writer”), “His business is that of a lawyer examining the testimony of witnesses by the rules of his profession, in order to ascertain whether, if they had thus testified on oath, in a court of justice, they would be entitled to credit and whether their narratives, as we now have them, would be received as ancient documents, coming from the proper custody.”
He is not the only respected legal scholar, also, to declare that the Resurrection of Christ is something that would stand up against the scrutiny of a judge and jury. There have been many others as well. For example, Lord Darling, former Chief Justice of England, was once quoted as saying that “no intelligent jury in the world could fail to bring in a verdict that the resurrection story is true.” And Alexander Hamilton, a framer of the U.S. Constitution and one of the United States’ most prominent and brilliant early constitutional lawyers, stated, “I have carefully examined the evidences of the Christian religion, and if I was sitting as a juror upon its authenticity I would unhesitatingly give my verdict in its favor. I can prove its truth as clearly as any proposition ever submitted to the mind of man.”
Although, perhaps ironically, I don't believe we should take oaths on the Bible in court...simply because the Bible tells us not to take oaths!! :)

There is a simple reason for the use of the bible to be placed under oath.
The courts wanted to take a symbol that people held in the highest regard, and have the oath taken using that symbol.

The judicial equipment ahs no longer something to do with God. And we don't think in God becasue we don't desire to be held to blame, it is by using fact we don't think. And if God had any say interior the judicial equipment, why are all of those rapists and murderers getting out of prison merely to do it returned??

you are a real thinker-there is no real answer to you question. our government system was built on judeo/christainity which is why we do this--and I suppose long ago people wouldn't lie on the holy bible-and you are right in a way it is insulting to use a book some consider holy to swaer to anything on..What about people who dont believe? what will swearing on that book mean to them NOTHING-so it is a pointless tradition...what is in the book could solve some problems though...

The "judicial" system started with Moses.....
There were no real laws except the ones handed to these people in the Old Testament....
God gave them to Moses and Moses gave them to the people to keep them in the upright ways of God......
The godless people, as they were called, gentiles, as they became known.... did not have laws to keep them upright.....
The laws were designed to keep people righteous until a time had come when Christ came through them..... A pure and upright people.......
Then, Christ became the law.....
Moses' sister and brother were conspiring to divert some authority to teach the masses.... He just had alot on his hands so, it was his father-in-law who gave him the idea of letting other people take some responsibility in determining some of the complaints the people had....
Thus were born, judges, officers, lawyers etc......

God reveals, man observes.
Evidence is based on man observation.
Revelation is belief.
There are two belief systems. You are trying to take something from one and use the second to "proof" is.
