Although I am old enough to do so (23), I'd hate to go behind my parents back and seek birth control from my physician. My parents do not know I am sexually active (by sexually active, I mean with my boyfriend). Is there a way I can get on birth control by using the family physician without parents knowning or do you think it's more confidential to seek another physcian? I am financially capable of paying for birth control, but still remain on my parent's health insurance plan. Is there a way this would pop up sometime? I just need help, and please spare me the "you're not ready for sex" nonsense! Thanks :)

Youre not ready for sex! lol jk. Honesty is the best policy. Telling youre parents the truth could open them up and be more understanding. There are no negative things about birth control. It just shows your parents that you are capable of making the right decisions for yourself and doing what you believe is best for you.

While the law would prohibit your doctor from discussing this there's the chance something would show up in paperwork that may have to pass through your parents' hands in order to get it covered by insurance.

I think you should find your own gynecologist and manage your contraceptive and other issues that way.

You shouldn't feel that you need to discuss your personal business with your parents. As the mother of a daughter not to much younger than you are, (I hate to say this, but..) there are times when mothers would prefer not to have some "suspicions" (for lack of a better term) confirmed. When a daughter is too young for sex mothers would hope to be able to deter that; but when a daughter is plenty old enough I, for one, don't particularly want to know about it.

I would get my own physician. If you can pay for your own BC, then do so. Your parents don't need to know anymore than they have to. You're an adult now. It's none of their business. Besides that, your physician legally and ethically can not discuss anything with your parents. But they could run across a billing statement of some sort for your pills if you're under their insurance and going to their family physician. Good luck!!

You're 23. Maybe it's time to grow up a little and start being honest instead of sneaking around like a teenager. I hate to sound so cold, but you're 23!
