There is something in German recipes called "Live Cake Spice". Can anyone tell me what this is and what the English/American substitute for this might be. I can translate most of the recipe by don't have a clue about this ingredient.

If the term used in the recipe is "Hefe" they mean Yeast.

I have no idea what it could be, but I have loads of practice with translating old german recipes from my own oma's collection. If you can give the term or word in German, I may be able to recognize what is being called for. The German language often combines words that don't make much sense if translated directly or literally. I'll check back later to see if you added the term.
