A shower is a party in which theme is "to shower" the guest of honor with gifts. Traditionally, bridal and baby showers have been 'ladies only' affairs, but today some hosts and hostesses prefer to include both genders.
Showers and children's birthday parties are the ONLY parties at which gifts are required. Do NOT show up empty handed! One may give as much as one wishes, but a lavish gift isn't necessary; a small token gift is considered adequate, especially if one is also giving a wedding gift.
Two etiquette cautions for showers. First, avoid making 'opening presents' the central theme of the event. Guests will get tired watching this much more quickly than brides will tire of unwrapping all that loot! And too much attention focused on 'who gave what' could embarrass guests who have only modest incomes. If one brings a particularly expensive gift to a shower, tell the host or hostess to set it aside to be opened privately, after the party. This avoids the appearance that one is "showing off" one's wealth.
Which leads us nicely into our second caution. One NEVER gives a shower for members of one's own family; that smacks of wrangling for riches to add to one's own family's coffers. The way to get around this is easy. A friend hosts the shower for one's sister, and then one "helps" that friend extensively.

The Bridal Shower usually takes place about a month or so before the actually wedding. There are many variations now on who is invited and the protocol, but traditionally it is for the bride and female family members and female wedding guests who know the bride. It is to shower the bride with gifts to start her life as a newlywed. Sometimes the groom is invited to help open gifts as well.

A bridal shower is a party usually for the bride where all her friends and family gather and she is "showered" with gifts. The gifts you receive are the ones you register for ahead of time. It is usually fun and happens 1-2 months before the wedding.

It's a party given to the bride, kinda like a baby shower, except all the gifts will be for her. Most the time it is lingerie that is given to the bride, or things that she will be able to use on the honey moon. It's a great way for her to get gifts and tips about marriage. Don't worry it's not a bachlorette party no strippers are included in a Bridal shower....

a bridal shower is a party hosted by the bridesmaids, family friends, sisters, co-workers, friends etc... At the party guests bring gifts to the bride. it's a way for brides to get more gifts. generally showers are themed... kitchen showers(guests bring kitchen items) honeymoon showers(guests bring items for the bride to use on her honeymoon) round the clock showers(guests are assigned a time and bring something the bride could use at that time of day) generally there is food, drink, cake, and games. The bride opens the gifts at the shower, and then the guests leave with a small party favor.

A party given for the newly engaged couple to show support and give gifts...people who will not be invited to the wedding or who are not able to make the wedding are usually invited to the shower, so they can still give a gift.
