I don't know. I'm getting married a few weeks before you and my parents and his parents already have the reception hall and the church booked and we've got the dress, flowers, brides maid dresses, a deal with the tux place ect. all done. The 'rents are really excited and doing most of the planning and I'm okaying everything since I'm not the type that's big on wedding planning or weddings. Just to let you know though, the reception hall that we booked was full for the weeks after our wedding so, if you want some place really good, you should start looking now.

I would actually start right away. At least start researching venues/vendors and get an idea of how much things would cost. As well as plan out how many people you thin you would invite. This wasy you can determine a budget for the wedding. If you have alot of friends/cousins near the same age as you you can ask them which vendor they used for photography, videography, flowers, etc. And see whether they can refer you to them.

It doesn't hurt starting as soon as you can, this way if you like a particular photographer/videographer or banquet hall you can book them right away (some places do book up at least one year in advance depending on the time of year you plan to get married). This way as your wedding date approaches you won't be too overwhelmed on who/what/where.

If you book the big ticket items like the banquet hall, dj/band, photographer, videographer you won't have to worry about it later on and you can focus on the details of your wedding.

On the STYLE NETWORK there's a show called "Who's Wedding Is It Anyways" or on TLC "A Wedding Story" you can pick up ideas on certain details you may want in your wedding and jot things down. It doesn't hurt to start a wedding planner book (buy one or make your own up-big binder of ideas). This way your more organized. Or you can always hire a wedding planner (if you have it in your budget).

HTH and Congrats! Good Luck!

Find the place first. If you start looking over a year in advance you should have no problem finding what you want. Also keep in mind that looking may take a few weeks and that May is popular, especially if you want it outdoors. I began looking about 10 months for mine and the dates were fairly limited, not impossible though. Try to find a place that does most of the planning for you, like flowers, cake, dj, ect. Congratulations!!! I was in the same boat. But I would say start booking things now and getting things done. My fiance and I got engaged in October of 2005 and are getting married in September 2007. I had my dress 2 weeks after we got engaged. I have almost everything done because I don't want to be stressed before the wedding. Start as soon as you can. Hope this helps.

It's never too early to prepare once you're engaged. Take advantage of timelines and lists (find them online or make your own) to get organized and spread out the work. It takes different people different amounts of time to get ready - especially depending on what kind of wedding it is. I was engaged for less than 3 months and had a fantastic wedding - but I was very busy!

I might advice u to think "the theme" of your wedding, what kind of party u'd like to be .. (garden party, ballroom party, etc) then u find the place that suits with the theme of wedding party. of course u must want it perfect at that time. then u can conformity with the dress, tux, the decoration, the dishes, and the dress codes of your invitees. i know mostly at the weds, it's officially use night gown and tux. but if u like to have somthing different, why dont u try picking a theme. u still have a lot of time to prepare.

It depends on what kind of wedding you’re having, you have to make arrangements for the venue my cousin got married in September and they had to reserve a year in advance. If you want a live band you’ll also have to reserve that my brother and his wife actual planned their wedding around a band when they could do it, I think they booked about 15 months ahead of time. If you’re just planning to get married at your local church you probably don’t need a lot of time at least 7 months.

I think most people take about a year to plan

It's never too early to start planning your wedding. If you don't want to be stressed out I suggest you begin ASAP. It takes a lot of time and thinking, and decision making... There are even wedding book planners that you can get to help you along the way, that is if you don't want to get yourself a personal wedding planner. They let you know when to order things, what to start looking into ect...

ya you should start now. its a good idea to send out save the date card well ahead of time, like a year. but do not send them out during any holiday or there will get miss placed. my sister in law also had to order her dress 6 months ahead of time for it to be made. but that is if you get a really nice one. most dont take as long, but you need to make sure
