Sure, what have you got to lose?
Would you rather have fewer security checks and one day someone steals your credit card and maxes it out for you?
Often these measures are part of the computer system at major stores. The cashier is being told they must check your ID. It's not like they are writing down your name and address.
If this cuts down on credit card fraud, which translates to a lower interest rate for customers, so be it. If they don't check your ID and as a result more credit card fraud is perpetrated, all credit card holders will end up paying a higher rate. So take your pick. Slight inconvenience of showing ID, or higher interest rates for all.

I think it's very neccessary. As a cashier, I used to card every person using the credit feature unless I already knew who they were. However, after receiving no backing from my managers and getting cussed out too much, I now only card those who do not sign the back of their cards or those who write 'Check ID' on the back of it. Since apparently it's not a rule we have to check ID's my managers basically make me look like an *** to rude "why you gotz to check my IDz" people.
If it's your card, you should have no problem presenting ID. Most people who come to the store drove there, so if you have no ID, you shouldn't be driving. In fact, sometimes I want to follow these ID-less customers to their card, jot down their license plate and call an anonymous tip about people driving without a license on them, at least hassle them a bit!
Anyways, I think it's smart and for extra security. The same people who say "WHY YOU GOTTA ID ME?" are the same people who would be suing the company and in your face when their card is stolen and no one checked ID.

What I hate is when I am in line and the two people in front of me pay with credit card and the cashier does not ask for ID but then they ask me. If they are going to do it then they need to do it for everyone or else it does not do any good.

It used to piss me off and irritate me. Now I sort of think it's more of a protection. Sometimes I feel better when they do check...
A good solution is to get a credit card (or debit card) with your photo on it. I have that, and lots of places seem to accept it as an ID (not for bars and clubs, but for paying with a card). Even though I'm not crazy about my picture, it saves lots of time and hassle.

Ofcourse it is reasonable....it is also for the security and benefit of the credit card user. The reason for checking ID is to ensure that you are the actual owner of that credit card.
