I want to know how tall and how old you are? because depends on this...you might be just an average weight and you might be thinking that you are fat, because...you are a girl right? We women always think that...we think we are fat, but not really for most of the time.
Anyways...I once tried to lose weight and I tried this. For 5 days a week I only ate vegetables, nothing oily and nothing sugary. I did at least 10 minutes of crunch exercise(which you can find out on this site: http://www.changingshape.com/exercise/strengthtraining/abdominalcrunch.asp) and I ate whatever I want for weekends. I lost couple of pounds in like a month. You could use some more exercises if you don't like this method or you could use some fat burning pills, but I don't recommend it since it's better to do it more naturally...
I hope this helps...good luck and take care!

One thing I found to help me is to eat an apple or an orange before I have a meal. The fiber in the fruit helps fill you up so you feel satisfied quicker. When I want something sweet, first I will drink water. At night, I will heat water in the microwave and drink it. Sometimes, this actually stops the desire for sweets, for sometimes one can misinterpret the need for hydration as a craving for sweets.
Oftentimes, we eat when we are bored. Going out for a walk, or reading helps, but again, if you must eat, try to reach for fruit or other high fiber food. I on purpose do not keep junk food in the house so I am not tempted.

what has worked best for me is to take a few days and examine what it is i'm eating for meals and snacks. i then cut back my food at each meal and add a snack in between, a banana, a piece of cheese, sometimes a small hand full of m&m's. key is to try and eat every 3 hours.(ex. breakfast 7am, snack 10am, lunch 1pm, etc.) add walking for 30 minutes 3 to 5 days a week. the weight will come off, it just takes time and persistance. i do not diet. i eat fries and hamburgers, all in moderation though. if i cut back my food though and increase excercise i always lose weight and tone up. just be reasonable! diets don't work long term. and the weight doesn't come on overnight.

How old are you? Maybe you're just at an age where hormones run wild. Are there other large people in your family? ight be a genetic predisposition to it. Maybe you just 'think' you're bigger than you really are.
Obviously controlling foods is a big part of it but whatever you do, don't get down on yourself. That has to be the worst thing that people do in relation to weight issues today. And don't look at yourself through other people's eyes. Screw what they think. You're a human being, and Jehovah God loves you. We should be working and living to please him and then maybe we wouldn't have such worthless worries about our looks.
God Bless and thanks for reading.

Portion control. Most people can eat anything..they just eat to much of it. Eat smaller meals every 3-4 hours and you'll never get a chance to be hungry. If your drinking sodas, cut those out...they add unneccessary calories on top of the food you are already eating.

Self Control. Its the only way to do it. No magic pill is going to do it and no magic diet will do it. Whatever you decide will work for you best you must remember to keep it a part of your daily life in order to maintain what you have achieved! That is where every diet fails miserably, they do not have a maintenance program to stay that way.
