Get a bank or any jar. Every time you catch yourself swearing fine yourself a quarter and put it in the bank. When your first child is born use the money to start a savings account.

I think it would take a bit of an attitude change. When I decided to stop swearing, I had to become less fiesty and more meek. Needless to say, I opted for remaining the old fiesty self I was meant to be.

Another idea (I would suggest you don't actually do this): Here, in the great state of Utah (sarcasm), the locals all stick substitute words in place of "naughty words". That way they can say what they are thinking without feeling like they are being offensive. I guess no one has told them that if they are replacing the swear words they are thinking in their mind with other words, the people who hear them are still going to think of swear words. What's the point of the aforementioned exercise?

Great idea!
I think your desire not to swear will help a lot.
Simply be careful before you speak.
If you find yourself becoming angry or losing your temper, use a relaxation technique like counting instead of swearing.
I used to have a teacher who wanted to stop swearing and he kept a bar of soap on a rope in the classroom, and every time he swore he would make himself lick the soap. It was apparently quite effective because by the time I had him he swore very little throughout the school year. There's a little Pavlovian psychology for you!
I think it's fabulous that you want to set a good example for your offspring.

Make a deal with your wife that every time you say a swear word, it will cost you. You decide the amount you don't want to give up each time you say it. The money goes directly to your wife for her spending pleasure.

If you have to keep shelling out the coin, you might start *thinking* before you swear. Just an idea....

Where a loose rubberband on your wrist and whenever you swear give it a good snap. It's called negative reinforcement and with enough of it you should stop swearing because subconsiously you will have a bad feeling when it comes to swearing.

When I stopped using swear words I would replace the curse words with silly words. Instead of saying Holy S*** I would say "Holy Cheese and Crackers Batman"

start getting used to it immediately; many people say that kids nowadays swear a lot ...etc. I mean where do they learn it if not from adults. I heard kids of 10 telling their mum/dad to f... off. I personally made sure this does not happen to me at home, so I don't even say sh...t; off course I use swearing occasionally at work when something drives me mad, but I keep it to a minimum, and do not use it in my conversations ...etc.
good luck

bite your tongue after you swear. a few times of this and your tongue will be so cut up that you won't want to swear anymore!

i've also heard of making a 'swear jar', where you put a nickel or dime in the jar for every time you swear. the money will accumulate in the jar and you'll see how much money your swearing costs you and so you'll take heed the next time you swear.

Think up other words to replace the swear words. Try to be more aware of movies, internet, others that swear around you.
