OK I understand the reasons that christians give for why he had to die. But why did he have to die on a cross. I mean, this was one of the absolute worst ways to die. If he just had to die couldn't God have let him be walking down the road and... oops he just slipt and split his head open on a rock or mabey the rock falls on him. Why did brutal torture have to come into play.

I can already hear the answer that it was to show us just how much he loved us. But thats like saying my daughter needs a bone marrow transplant and just to prove to her that her brother loves her, he's going to donate his using no anesthesia. Its just not neccessary. Between this and the fact that if you don't worship him he will torture you for eternity based on what you did the 80 or so years you were on this planet, God seems a little pre occupied with torture.

if any one says that god is all about love and not torture then they are lying, only a "fluffy bunny" would belive that (fluffy bunny: a person who only looks at the good side of a god, and pays no attention to there dake side) and Jesus had to die like that because he took the place of a murderer on the cross.

He died on a cross for several reasons , one could argue.
the religious person could say 1. to be a SPECTACAL for the rest of the world, a symbol, a public display of God's love in response to the radical rejection of love, the love that came into the world. and now today we still see the cross and are reminded of God's love for humanity.
2. the historist could argue simply that this was the method one suffered when one opposed the established order, i.e. when one was thought to be an insurrectionist, a rebel. You were crucified then as an example to the rest of the world. It basically says.."oh yea? you want to do what Jesus did well this is what happens." It was the governments way - inj that time - of setting an example.

First of all, Christ didn't anesthetize himself because the entire purpose of his death was to be a lesson for all humanity. It was all symbolic: his body, his death, the torture, the cross. It was never meant to be understood myopically. Even literally, there was purpose. In ancient times, the most prominent measure of execution was death by crucifixion. The convicted was either nailed to a cross or roped to the beam. This form of penalty was used so that the victim could act as a human example to keep people in fear of revolting against the authorities of those times. Throughout the annals of history, many methods of instilling fear in people to keep them oppressed have been recorded. Jesus posed a great threat to the government bodies of those times, his supremacy was gradually increasing and his reputation became more and more intimidating. To calm their concerns about the man who threatened their comfortable authority, the senate decided to eradicate him. Besides the aforementioned reason, a cross may have been used to symbolically represent the Divine Trinity (i.e. the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) referring to the three points at the upper end of the cross (the arms and head points). Or the four points could represent the four gospels. It is hard to be certain. You are entitled to feel as you will. I respect everyone's opinions of everything, but atleast be informed before you make such strong deductions. Everything in life is about logic, I can conversate with an atheist as long as I have something to work with. But to crudely criticize based on an invalid, ill-heard, misconstrued understanding of unsufficient information is as unintelligent as critiquing the Mona Lisa or Venus de Milo because they look "stupid." No offense, of course.

The whole of the bible tell the reasons for Christ's death on the Cross. God is not "pre-occuppied" with torture. He wants that ALL should come & be with Him, in Heaven. It is the freewill & individual choice that shows the LOVE of God. He has given us EVERY available resource to find out WHO He is, & WHAT He wants & more importanatly WHY! All you have to do is spend alittle time & get to know Him through HIS Words!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

**Deuteronomy 21:22 "If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23 his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God.

We are the ones that have commited sins deserving of death, being accursed of God..THAT IS the price that Christ paid for EACH of us that accepts His FREE gift to us...because HE LOVES US so very much!
God is the one that is "tortured" for every child that does NOT choose to be with Him. Think of how you would feel if one of your children that you love & cherish..CHOSE to be away from you forever, to be in torment by their OWN FREE CHOICE?
I pray that you will honestly do a little seeking of the truth! It is worth the journey!

I like to think he did it because he loves us.

Here goes my other theory:

He came to die in place of us as criminals. A sacrafice isn't quite a sacrafice if it is easy. And if you are looking for a sacrafice with the power to over come anything you have to look for a pretty big sacrafice.

He knew that he would beat death, so a quick painless death is no sacrafice. It was the suffering that came before the death that was the true sacrafice. The death was more of to seal the deal type thing. He came down and was brutally punished in place of the punishment that mankind would have recieved.

I don't if that makes sense, but that is all I have when my hands are turning blue cause my roommate opens the window.

God had Jesus die on a pole rather than a cross. but anyway, it is a major part of prophecy not only for the Jews at that time in history. But it is an example that the bible is inspired by God. So prophecy is what shows to all persons the bible is legitimate.

You may review what the meaning of hell is,, it actually is the grave... the underworld that is taught in other religions is not a bible teaching.....Symbolic the lake of fire is a place of not suffering but completeness. In bible times cities threw their trash and burnt stuff outside the city walls. Including dead murders, rapist and such. But not live persons. So not hell but the lake of fire symbolizes destruction for the wicked persons.

When Adam sinned it changed everything. The first sacrifice of an animal to clothe them of their sins. Jesus became the lamb for us and was slain for us. He had to take on the sins of the world. Everyone had to see it and remember it. He hung up there, and God turned His back on Him because He couldn't look upon sin. Jesus knew this was going to happen before the world began. Just think of all those many years knowing He was going to endure this. Also God allowed Him to come down and see what we go through, so that He can understand what we are dealing with. He does love us so much, that He was willing to sacrifice for us. God never intended anyone to go to hell except Satan, and his angels. No where in the Bible does it say God created hell for man.

Jesus had to suffer the worst possible death to truley show us that he, Yes does love us, but also to show us that he is in fact God. Jesus was the perfect lamb of God, he did not sin and even through this horrible unjust punishment that he had to endure, he did not sin and curse God. Dying on the Cross was the easy part, you forget that he actually died and went to Hell for three days and Conquered death. It was the Perfect sacrifice.

Also, God only Judges you on your actions if you Choose to ignore his grace. Its kinda like God has given you the cure for a horrible disease that will kill you and the only thing you have to do is reach out and grab it. he doesnt want you to die, you just choose not go grab the cure.

It was a Roman form of exicution at the time, Jesus actually suffocated when everything collapsed under his weight. He actually wasn't nailed in the hands, it was just about the wrist, they also consider that hand many times, if he actually was nailed in the hand it would rip the hand in half. Jesus was one of the last crucified, they crucified thousands of people before Christ, in several civilizations, not just the Roman Empire. They quit because the cross became a symbol of Christianity. As a matter of a fact they were going to crucified one of Jesus's desciples but he said no I am not worthy to share the saem death of my savior so he was killed in just as brutal of an act but a different form. Hope I helpped, Go in Christ.

I believe it's because in the Jewish Faith, according to the Old Testamen-Hebrew Scriptures- it states that anyone who dies on a cross is cursed by God.

That fits what happened. He was treated by God as having committed every sin which as ever been or ever will be committed. God cursed him.

Now, this frees up God to not hold the curse of sin and death over mankind. We may choose to ask God to let Jesus' sacrifice cover our own sins on a personal basis, and He will.

It's called being saved, or redeemed through Christ.

He died on the cross to show us how much he does love us. and what he would go through for us. He is not preoccupied with torture, God is love. It's our decision whether we go to Heaven or Hell by the choices we make. It's very clear, follow God go to heaven follow satan go to hell. Take your pick. God is awesome. He is the only thing that is constant in our lives. He will never leave you nor forsake you. No matter what you do, if you ask for forgiveness he will forgive you. He is a merciful God. I don't understand how anyone could deny him. And how he died should say it all!!!!!! HE LOVE'S YOU AND HE DIED 4 YOU. Isn't that enough for you to follow him?
