I have 4 tattoos in just black and 1 color one, the color one by far is more vibrant, depending on the artist and how you take care of them none of them will fade to badley. My husband is covered in mostly colored tatts, but the black he has faded more. Be sure you make sure your artist will do free touch ups. Most of them do as you are a walking billboard for them and they want it to look good.

It depends on the tattoo, where it's going, etc. I've been in the industry for years. It also depends on the individual persons skin. Me personally, my skin holds color much better than black. I've had my tattoos for years and years and they are just as vivid as ever. However, color does fade with sun exposure, real or fake. The sun affects black also, it can make it have a purple or green cast. Also it depends on how the color is put in. I've seen artists make white ink pop on somebody that is dark complected, and I've seen artists that couldn't do light colors on dark skin. Basically it will just require some research & experimentation on your part.

I have almost entirely black tattoos, with little to no shading. I think color tattoos are awesome, when they are well done (same with everything else). For things like tribals, usually it looks better to just have no shading at all.

The reason I don't have color tattoos is because I have quite a lot of freckles, and I'm afraid my speckles would make the color parts end up speckled as well. Which they will. If you've got freckles it's just something you have to recognize and live with.

I have both but most of them are colored. I think it depends on the tat its self. Some artist are so good and can do an awesome job just by the shading & detail but then if you did the same in color it would look good too but maybe less detail. My friend has all black & the detail is supurb.

I think black & grey wash looks better on guys and color looks better on the girls.

Black tattoos on guys are very sexy to me! I have 3, 1 is colored but my man has 8 and they are all black! They look so nice on his skin!

i think color tattoos are beautiful on people with fair skin. Tanned or dark skin don't let the colors show as vibrantly. I'm getting a tattoo this week and mine will be black and grey.

I prefer black (mainly because the colour ones remind me of bikers or 'mother' tattoos), but thats just my preference. I have 2, one has shading, the other is solid black.

Color tends to fad quicker than black, but it really depends on the design, and how good the tatt artist is
