There are three levels of crimes. Felonies (the worst), misdemeanros (in the middle), and citations/violations of local (city or county) ordinances.

Speeding tickets and parking tickets are both examples of violations/citations. So is jay-walking, littering, and many other minor crimes. However, like any other matter, ignoring it will only make things get worse. The citation will include instructions on what you are charged with, and how you can respond.

Follow the instructions. If you think it's really wrong, consult with an attorney.

Anything you get a citation for, whether it be a traffic violation or something else, is a crime of some type. If a citation is issued, it is a very minor crime and not something that would generally show up on any criminal record. Since you did not say what you were ticketed for, I can only assume it is something such as minor in possession of alcohol or littering, etc. These types of violations are not anything that you have to worry about showing up on any criminal history check or affecting your car insurance.

it depends on what it is for. It will probably be on your record for 3 years and then drops off. you may be able to perform community service and keep it off of your record.
