Why are there so many people in this forum demanding that the Mexicans go home and fix their own government when we can't even do that here at home? What makes you think that it would be so much easier for them to do that than it is for us? Do we believe that Mexicans who come here from below-poverty level standards have more of an influence of their government officials than those of us in the middle-to-upper class category do on our officials here in the USA?

If you feel this way towards Mexicans please provide some suggestions that you think would work for Mexicans to try to fix their governement. They've already tried voting in a new party when they put Fox in office. The party before Fox had been in office for 70 years. So obviously the voting for different leaders hasn't worked.

I think they are leaving their country for ours because they have TRIED to change their government by ousting the political party who had been in office for 70+ years to no effect. I think they are leaving their country because they are starving and want to feed their families and use their God-given survival skills to make a better life for themselves and their families.

I like your question. Being a Mexican American(and the daughter of an illegal immigrant), I've heard a lot of people tell me to shut up and go to my own country whenever I make a political statement about Amerian politics. I'm not allowed to express my beliefs regarding corruption, immigration, education, social security, or even taxes because I'm told that if I don't like things then I can just leave. Our government isn't perfect, far from it. We may be one of the most powerful nations in the world, but even then we're not perfect. There is so much political division and hostility. And that coming from the progressive United States.

Now compare that to a third world nation, still reeling from its many revolutions, still trying to find its footing, still trying to establish itself as an independent nation. The corruption, the inequality, the poverty, the political manipulation, and the demagogues that control the government all help further the instability.

My father, a proud Mexican man, did not want to leave his home. But he knew that what his country, his beautiful Mexico, couldn't offer him what he wanted, what he needed. He grew up poor and if he hadn't come, he would've died poor. He knew no way to help his nation. He had to leave.

As far as helping the nation, the first thing that needs to happen is the end of the political corruption, whose roots are so deeply intertwined in the poltical infrastructure of the nation, that it would help bring down the whole hierarchy of leaders. How can that be accommplished? I'm not sure. But I think it would have to start with, believe it or not, another revolution on the part of the Mexican citizens. Then would come the social reforms that would honestly help the poorer parts of the nation receive the financial and medical aid they so desperately need. The better schooling and employment would inevitably follow.

Okay, so that's kind of idealistic. But it's the best I can do.

The Mexican Govt can't be fixed if the people are not there to work on it. What does it say about these people when they leave for the USA and break the law to get in?

By the way, our govt is the best govt in the world because we have freedom in the USA. That freedom causes mistakes, flaws, misunderstandings, etc. but it also encourages dialog, the free exchange of ideas, and growth. Don't under rate freedom. Enjoy it while you can. George Orwell's 1984 is descending on us faster than I ever thought. Big Brother is rearing his ugly head and everytime we knock our country, we are knocking our freedom.

Poverty does not exist only in Mexico. I am a native born American and unemployed. I am not crying about it. I am doing something about it.

The political correctness movement in the USA is killing America. I accept people on a one to one basis. I do not endorse wholesale acceptance of a nation or a belief system. You may not see it yet, but these PC endorsements of nations and beliefs will be waging war against us in the near future. I call them sleeper cells waiting for their phone calls.

I am proud to be an American. I am proud that America is available to help so many people. I now must ask you why do you think they are leaving their country for ours?

The US can help to change the goverment in Mexico. First completely shut off the Mexican border. Then put sanctions on the country just like they do with other countries.Force the Mexican goverment to change and take care of their own people.
Mexico is a rich country in which the wealth is controlled by spanish blood. The people in poverty are really the Mexican Indians.

First of all im tired of all this BS about mexicans need to go home and mexicans taking our jobs. The majority of people in the US are immigrants from one country or another. Mexicans regardless of our illegal entrance to a better life have been very beneficial to the US, more good than bad. Who else build you fancy little house that you so called worked hard for. He cleans up your office when you go home to your unappreciative family. And I would bet a that theres not one white person who thinks they can talk down to a mexican with outeven knowing the true meaning of hard work, struggle, and determination to become something from nothing. Everybody know mexicans are hardworking people, and white people fear that mexicans WILL TAKE OVER. Just like the movie"day after tommorow" al americans will come scrambling over to mexican soil and beg for life, and then will see how you can survive having to learn the language and lifestyle. Americans wont last without daddys money and golf buddies....respect.

I agree with angel R on this one.people keep saying that mexico needs to fix their country like they haven't been trying to for many years.I mean didn't any of them watch the recent presidential elections over there or the trouble that's still occurring in oxaca?my guess is not, because its easier to turn a blind eye and just say "well its ur fault ur not pulling your weight or doing enough to change".kind of reminds me of people who suffer from drug problems or alcohol problems.others are always quick to blame them but never bother to suggest any support or ways they can get better.its always "their" fault nobody else's.

What Americans or the USA does or doesn't do is OUR business. It is irrelevant. We don't go running away to another country. We stay and try to make it better. Mexicans should demonstrate and protest THERE, voice your outrage THERE!! If the 20+million illegal immigrants in the USA would go back to Mexico, they would have PLENTY of people to make their voices HEARD!! There are a few brave souls left in Mexico, trying to fight for THEIR rights (OAXACA). They could make changes for sure if the 20+million in the USA were there with them. Maybe they could all band together and make many changes for everyone there. They can't change Mexico while living in the USA!! Those in the USA are lily-livered illegal cowards!!!

People form the nation and elect the representatives for them. Since people form the populace, they need to individually fix themself. We get the governments we deserve and to attempt to fix them would fly in the face of hypocrisy. "Fixing" starts with self - our value system. The Muslim extremists want to fix us all in North America - but we all can rationally conclude that they need to fix themselves, first. How would you suggest we "fix" any one including ourselves ? Which way and how ? The problem is with the people .

The US government isnt perfect (c'mon tell me which government out there is perfect), but Mexico's isnt the cherry on top either. And Americans are not the ones trying to cross over the border (except for criminals and temporary tourists).

What kind of political parties do they have over there in Mexico? If all of them are elitist self-serving douchebags then why not get progressive/moderates into the system to challenge the status quo?

If the democratic way doesnt work, you can always try revolution (if anyone is willing to sacrifice themselves that is)

We aren't using ours as an excuse to make other people educate our children at the expense of their own, and take care of their health at the expense of their own sick.

It is a big difference.

Read my lips: NOT MY PROBLEM.

This is a little more involved than disciplining your two-year-old. Do we have problems here? Yup. We are a sovereign nation - we'll figure it out without the oh-so-helpful advice of Senor Fox. HIS profoundly corrupt government is responsible for taking care of their own citizens - but they don't. Despite the fact that Mexico is THE RICHEST country in Central America, nearly 3/4 of the population lives in poverty. Did you know that Mexico has a guest worker program whereby they import over 45,000 Guatemalans to pick Mexican produce? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?!?

So sorry that the Mexican people haven't been able to fix their own broken government, but, that doesn't mean it's our responsibility to pick up the slack. I'm not going to provide suggestions for Mexicans to fix their government. I'm too busy trying to figure out ways for US to fix OURS.

Last time I looked, no other country was wiping OUR butts.
