I don't think it is a learning experience for them as much as they would think it is just really cool. I Tattoo, and my kids have watched me, they think it is great to watch. They know that they can not get one until they are 18 but the 15 year old is already planning.

I don't necessarily think it's inappropriate. The shop I was previously affiliated with had a family like environment & the owners kids were usually around. However, what you don't realize is the artist needs to concentrate & needs you not to be distracted. It's also the artist's preferance. In some states it's illegal to have children anywhere but the waiting area. Also stress to them how important it is not to touch anything, stay out of the way and don't distract the artists.

I can't see why it would be inappropriate. It's not an adult bookstore or anything and they aren't the ones getting the tattoos. If anything I would have to agree with you that it's a learning experience. They should know what getting a tattoo is like and knowing about THAT option instead of risking it underground.
You're sort of setting a good example by getting your tattoo done professionally and responsibly.

the one I go to lets you bring kids but you gotta keep them in control! If they are preteens they can look and watch.I don't see the harm in that at all! I say take them if you like! I would If I had any! It's important for them to be educated on what goes on in the world! They aren't babies so take them! My mom took me to an abortion clinic when i got my period. I was 12 so that kinda had me think about sex and babies before my time when i'm ready! I say go ahead! whats the harm in them watching! as long as they don't touch anything!

Depends on the shop. I wouldn't take my kids to a shop where they could see someone getting genitals tattooed. Check out privacy concerns.

It all depends on the place. My shop of choice does not allow any one under the age of 16 inside, and if you're under 18, you must have a parent present. But at my friends shop of choice, they don't care either way.

Check with the parlor first, most will not let people under 18 in. I say if they are OK with it, do it. It's better than taking them to a bar or strip club.

The place I went to only allowed you in the room along with the artist. No extra people. I don't see anything wrong with it though.

Where I live you have to be 18 to even go in. If I could I would take my son just to watch. I wouldnt let him get anything done untill he was older

Dear Cup o' Butter,
What exactly do you expect your kids to learn from this? I caution you to please use common sense and not allow such exposure to your children. Understand that tattoos pose an extreme risk of disease, even if done properly. If you decide to take your children to this parlor, sobeit, but don't forget to stop by a methadone clinic for "exposure" also. Further, you may want visit your local druggie, just to make sure that the fieldtrip is complete.
