Yes, there are college scholarships for women in your situation. Most are for traditional students, but there are scholarships geared towards nontraditional students, too. Collegeanswer.com has a lot of good information regarding financial aid and applying for it. There is help searching for scholarships out there, and they are free sources.
First, apply at FAFSA.ed.gov because it will help you tap into need based financial aid from both the federal government and the college itself.
Second, your college financial aid office has a list of private scholarships offered by organizations and companies.
Third, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for your college major, ethnic, and racial group with scholarship. Sometimes, these searches will bring up scholarships.
Finally, there are free membership scholarship search websites. Many are updated on a regular basis. I recommend joining at least several of them. I also recommend bookmarking these websites for when your high school student starts applying to different colleges.
Good luck!

There are some scholarships online that don't require essays. Free College Scholarships is one that gives away $10,000. To be eligible, you must be over 18 (or have a parent/guardian sign up for you) and a permanent resident of the United States. The next drawing is at the end of this month:

I just had to answer you. I'm 36 and I went back to school five months after having my third child, and have continued as a single mother. There's no age limit on financial aid, and many scholarships are available at colleges, so go for it. It's tough but it's worth it.
As for writing a letter, try telling them a little bit about your history, and why it's so important for you to continue your education. There is importance in being earnest.
The best of luck to you, and your family...

What type of letter? What is the scholarship for that you are applying for?
As for going back to college, its great!!! I did it when I was 30 and my son was two (divorced six weeks after I started).
Make sure you apply for grants, work study and student loans as well. If you get the scholarship and don't need any of that, you don't have to accept it. But if you don't get the scholarship, at least the money will be there for you.
If you want to talk to me about school in your thirties and with kids, feel free to email me.

There's a ton of scholarships out there for parents and for adults returning to college to complete their educations. Go to your college's financial office or speak with your counselor. They should be able to point you in the right direction as well as assist you with a letter!
Good luck and don't give up!
