Well, the bible says that there will be false prophets and people heralding the return of Christ before he comes, but when he really comes, everyone will know it. So people who predict the end of the world are usually looking for attention or just deceived.
However, the bible also says that Christ will come again when he is least expected, and Jesus said that he was not allowed to say the day when the world would end. I'm guessing God intends to keep it a secret.
Anyway, about that least expect it thing, when I was a kid, I used to every now and then stop and say "I'm expecting you Jesus!" but then I realized that the psychology behind the whole thing... wow. It blew my five-year-old mind. 'Cause like, if you say you're expecting him, then you're expecting him not to come because you say you expect him to come, so maybe you should expect him to not come...
I spent hours pondering this, and decided that it was best just to stay on the safe side and always be ready.

there were more than 60 ministers preaching the return of Christ at that time because of the 2300 day(yr.) prophecy of Dan 8:14. they all believed at that time that the sanctuary spoken of was the earth. but the sanctuary is a real place in heaven, so although they got the event wrong the time was correct.1844. Also the reason that so many understood this was because the book of Dan. was unsealed at the "time of the end" 1798

Because the end of the 2300 days was close, and William Miller in the States along with others in various countries and independent of Miller, were preaching that the cleansing of the temple spoken of in Daniel was the cleansing of the earth. So they naturally thought that Jesus would return. But what really happened was that Jesus entered the Most Holy Place in the Heavenly Sanctuary, where He commenced the judgment of the dead on through to the living. He is still performing this portion of His ministry. But not for long, for He is soon to return to earth for real.

Because they started following a man instead of believing in what the Bibles says, " No man knows the day nor the hour of Christ comming" Not even Christ, only God knows.

They're always expecting the return of their messiah and the end of the world. This type of behavior has been around for thousands of years.

For the same reason that they are expecting him now, last week, next week, next year, and on and on. Any time that there is a little strife in the world, it suddenly becomes " the end times".
