Personally, I would not want the Bush girls to be in the military - I don't think they are cut out for it; not every one is. I know that I personally could not do it because my anxiety level tends to just be too high. One of my sons however, is a Marine and he is well-suited for it. We knew since he was four years old that he would be in the military, law enforcement or a fire fighter; he has always been a risk taker.
It is a myth that only the poor join the military. My son comes from a city where a lot of people have money and many of the young men (including several of my son's friends,) have chosen to join the military instead of going right college. There are many families that are considered "elite," that have kids that join. Take Dr. Laura, for instance, she starts every radio broadcast by saying that her son is enlisted and that she is proud of him. Also, no one sends their sons and daughters. These brave young and women make the choice for themselves. It was entirely my son's idea to join. He was actually afraid that I would not sign his papers for the early entry program because he knows I am afraid for him, but I knew this was important to him and never tried to discourage him from doing something he has been called to. (Do you really think that politicians can just order their grown children to join the service?)

That's a question not really going anywhere. Why should the presiden'ts daughters "set an example", any more than anyone else? They didn't ask daddy to be Pres, and since they are fortunate enough to live in a free country, they can make their own decisions. I, on the other hand, have two nephews in the military, and am proud that they are fighting for my country. Oh yeah, and I'm voting Republican. I would challange you to research this a bit more. For example, are you aware that the ENTIRE Vietnam fiasco was a Democrat "oops"? The Republicans had to do their best to clean it up.

Stupid question!!!!
Why aren't you setting an example and serving? How about your Mom & Dad? Military is not for everyone & one of his daughters is in Africa working for UNICEF. They do not sit by the pool & eat bon bons, the other works for a Manhattan Design Museum.

Their father ran for office & became president, not the twins.
They should not be expected as adults to live the life that nuts would chose for them. I mean you not their father - he lets them use their freedom that he defends.

I do not know about their "children" as they would be adults, but I do know out of 100 Senators - 35 are veterans & 10 of those saw combat. Their parents were not crazy about their "children" going to war but they were patriotic.

After the last election there were five national level politicians who have had children in Iraq:

Rep. Joe Wilson (R)
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R)
Rep. Todd Akin (R)
Sen. Kit Bond (R)
Sen. Tim Johnson (D)

The military is in enough trouble dealing with their father. Let those two girls stay in hiding (in Paraguay). Maybe their father will follow them

"I, on the other hand, have two nephews in the military, and am proud that they are fighting for my country."

You mean fighting for nothing at all. Iraq can't hurt you. Terrorists can hurt you at any moment.

They are not stupid enough to send their own kids. However, since they do not care about anyone else (American or foreign), they will keep sacrificing lives and spilling American blood on the Altar of Osama Bin-Laden as long as it keeps them in power and keeps making them money.
