Watch means to be ready to go when he comes
So that you don't fall into temptation
Keep yourself full of oil, that is to say, full of the word, full of faith, full of prayer and praise. A vessel of honor, when he comes you will go to meet him, if you are child of god and go into other things you may not be looking and watching.
then you might not know he is comming

The "rapture" is an unbiblical fairytale. There is ONLY the 2nd coming of Christ. And Christ never taught us that we would "flee" or be "zapped" away like cowards in the face of tribulation. Jesus gave us power over ALL our enemies. He emphasized this OVER and OVER. Christ taught us, "to he who overcomes", NOT "to he who runs away". When Christ comes, he's coming to reign upon the earth for a thousand years, before the great white throne of GOD's judgement. And Christ taught us that his sheep will judge the earth with him -- that we too will judge angels (fallen angels). Wherever Christ will be -- there we will be too. And he's going to step foot upon God's Holy mountain to rule with an iron rod of judgement to judge the nations. And Christ doesn't return until AFTER the tribulation of the Antichrist. So the Antichrist comes first, THEN Jesus. People use this false "rapture" doctrine as a security blanket -- as if they don't have to read and understand God's word, because they'll just be "zapped" away, "regardless". This false doctrine has made people illiterate to the TRUE events that shall take place on the earth soon.

What is meant by "watch" (as well as pray) is referring to the signs of the time. The natural disasters, the wars.....all of these things are leading up to the end times, when the coming of Christ shall be. When we keep up with current events of what's going on throughtout the world, we know that the rapture is getting closer. You can actually keep up with the bible's prophesying along with the events happening in the world today. So that's what the watching is all about. Watch what's going on around you and apply it to the prophesy of the scripture.

I'm Jewish but I know a little about the subject. Isn't there supposed to be a Great Deception in the near future, one that will test the faith of all the religions, including Christianity? It's in Revelations, I think. And it also mentions that the remaining followers will receive a mark of some kind, labeling them True Believers, that they will suffer as everyone else will. Where does rapture fit in all of this?

Q: >>> If Christians are to be "raptured", "raised up to meet Christ in the air, why do they need to "watch"? <<<

You need to WATCH, because you do not know when it will Happen.

Watch is used but it is for us to watch our selves. Keep from sin, watch out. Watch and pray.
NO sin is going to enter into the kingdom of God.
Ruptured out,
Have you ever dropped strait pins, and used a magnet to pick them up?
You know there is a magnetic field in the center of Earth,
When we excepted Christ as our lord and Savior, that field became alive in us. Our life began to take a whole new direction, when Jesus comes back, we are going to be like that little pin, flying to attach itself to Jesus. No one with sin will go, the magnetic filed is gone. The blood of Jesus is the force that will pull us out of here, any one with sin, wont make it.
so that is why he says watch.
Watch ourselves. Be clean of sin. Only we can do our part, Jesus will do his.
We have to choose Life, and not death.
watching all the time not to sin. Be on guard of our own lives.
He gave his blood, its up to us to use it all the time.

Christians will not be raptured. That is a lie of the devil to make you think you get another chance at salvation. It causes slothfulness when it comes to your personal salvation.

Only those that are watching and looking forward to His return will go. Some nominal Christians will be left behind.
