There are a couple of good dvd's out by Tani Roberts. She shows you how to do tricks. They are fun to watch, even if you don't have birds. If you want your bird to whistle I would suggest getting the tapes of the Whistler. This man has a wonderful group of tapes that birds just love to listen too!

There are also many books out there to look thru....I just saw a nice selection at PETSMART today....so you might start there...

Good luck!

I have a cockatiel myself and I taught him to say many different words and even how to dance! All I can suggest is a lot of repitition and use a high pitch voice. Cockatiels will often respond to higher voices rather than lower ones. If for instance, you want to teach her a word... such as 'hello' - continuosly say it or make it a habit whenever you talk to her to start with hello. Be enthusiastic and emphasize the word. Also, keep the words simple and try to keep to as little as two syllables, this way they won't get confused. As for tricks and movement, be encouraging and be repititious. Give her praise when she does someting right etc. However, when it comes to talking - female birds aren't often as talkative as males so you may have some problems getting her to talk. Goodluck !!! I hope this helps!

Yes. Its best to start as soon as possible when they are young. I taught my bird to whistle two songs when he was young. We whistled the same thing over and over until he got it. You can also buy a cd with talking and whistling on it especially for cockatiels.
