One gram of carbs (like bread and rice) or protein (like in meats and fish and eggs) has 4 calories, but fat has twice the amount - 9 calories.

Cheese and other heavy dairy are some of the highest fat foods. Pizza, burgers, and any fried food is definitely on that list, too. And it goes without saying, that any sweet desserts will contain lots of fat.

Eating a lot of fat and sugary foods is a great way to gain weight, but not a good way to get an attractive body. Eating like this puts on fat, so you should expect to get some extra flab on your hips and legs, and a growing belly. You may see results in a few days or a week of heavy eating, but some people find it hard to gain weight quickly, so it may take a few months for you to gain 20+ pounds.

If extra flab isn't your idea, you have to go the hard way - exercise, with a preference on weight training, will give you a fuller appearance without the extra flab. It takes longer, but it is much healthier.

It depends on why you want to gain the weight and how fast. Without knowing your bodytype, 120 sounds like a pretty adequate weight. Going with a carbohydrate source as others have stated would make any weight gain consist of bodyfat, which I'm guessing isn't your intention. If you aren't in a big rush to put on weight, weight training and eating healthy should do it. Figure out what your caloric demand is and go slightly over that, with your diet consisting of proteins, use good fats such as omegas and non saturated fats (not immediately following workout) to help if you are in a hurry.

You can always supplement with a product like "Ensure". It is full of balanced calories tastes good and will pack the weight on. As far as food goes, eat lots of complex carbs like pasta with plenty of protein in the form of lean meats. Whole grain breads will also pack the pounds on. The secret is to eat generous portions and stay away from sugars and fats. Make a meal or snack out of Ramen Noodles and top it off with steak or seafood. Yumm!

A body builder fren of mine was eating lots of bread and boiled eggs / potatoes/chicken. Something like 1 loaf = 12 slices of bread and 3 eggs daily. It took 2-3 months to show more bulk but regular exercise like gym-ing will speed up the process.

Try a protein powder and exercise - gain muscle, not fat. Much healthier.
