I know that a lot of people read the Bible daily.

Just curious how you decide which chapters/verses you will read each day. Do you follow a plan? Do you go in some particular order?

Recently I decided to read the New Testament and then the Old Testament to make sure I had read the entire bible.

Usually though I take the approach that I pray before I read and let the Holy Spirit guide me.

There are so many ways to approach it and I don't think there are any wrong ways.

The main thing to me is to pray and ask God to speak to me through His word.

I don't think the order really matters, I just think its important to pick a certain amount of time each day to set aside for reading and stick to it. As to what books/chapters to read, their are several ways to approach it. I know some people just start from Genesis and read a little bit each day until they get all the way through to Revelation. That may seem overwhelming though. Somebody once suggested starting in the Greek Scriptures (Matt thru Rev). Though all of the Bible is important, the Greek scriptures only have 27 books, so somebody who plans to make it a goal to read the whole Bible might want to first make it a goal to read these books. You might also appreciate the counsel in these books about how to walk in the footsteps of Christ. I also like to pick books that are of particular interest to me. The Psalms are great if you are feeling down.

Each year I try and read the Bible differently!
Once I read all the shortest chapters in the Bible first. Another time I started with Genesis and went all the way to Revelation. Sometimes I read 5 Psalms a day and 1 Proverb so that I can read these both books in a month.
It does not really matter what plan you use to read the Bible, just read it!

there are good plans I have used in the past but what I found really gets me into the scriptures meaning is this. I pick a letter I am gonna read in the NT and figure out where abouts that group it was written to is in Acts and I read that to get a background, this contributes to the understanding

EX It was some people from Ephasis who got Paul locked up in J

Then I read totally through the letter each day for about a month or more. If I am driving I tape that book and just play it on automatic rewind over and over as I drive.

It is amazing what this opens up to you. When I was told it was a good program my first thought was how boring. Anything but boring is this system.

there is a system used by churches that tell them what time of to read various parts of the bible . some bibles have this at the front . i for one think that you should read the bible just like other books page by page verse by verse and not jump all over and get it all mixed up.
you might want to read either the old testament or new testament first the new one is a bit less boring and more of it applies to daily life but its important to read both parts read some each day even if its only a few verses or even just one .
pray before you read asking Jesus to help you understand the teachings and pray after thanking him for the teachings .
its hard book to read but take it slow and keep at it its worth
eternity

I like to read the bible one bite at a time. Using devotional books is the easiest way to do it. They give you a verse or two and tell you how this applies to your life. I usually read the whole chapter so I can make sure that I understand the context that it is written in. If you can't get a hold of a book, Charles Stanely has his on the internet at www.intouch.org.

One sturdy way is to have 3 bookmarks. study a million financial disaster from the OT, a psalm, and a million from the NT each and on a daily basis. It takes approximately 10 minutes or so, or much less. by capacity of the time the OT is finished, you will possibly have study the NT numerous situations (sturdy for a Christian). this technique works extremely nicely.

Some people read from front to back, but you can also go in chronological order. Just look in the index and it should tell you when that particular book was written. Sometimes, I just read the parts of the bible that pertain to what I'm feeling. Like if I'm feeling down, I'll read the Psalms and I always feel better!

The Bible is a book for all seasons, with verses for all occasions. My Reccomendation is to read both Testaments all the way through, Highlighting those that impress You for whatever reason, and then returning to those verses when/as needed.

I don't mean to be cynical, but you might as well be reading the latest Spider Man Comic. I was raised Catholic and do believe in God, but I also believe in History and Archaeological fact. Look at all the evidence that has been found; the ancient manuscripts, Gospels and texts. Most of the bible (as we know it today) has been twisted and contorted to provide society with a male egotistical view; so as to maintain power and control (and not to mention financial prosperity). I think everyone needs to reconsider these old teachings and look beyond them.

I think Gods true message is being missed altogether!
