Plato tried to calm Socrates down. Socrates was noted for his life of questioning. Questioning everything, authority, religion, history, morals. Sometimes it got him into trouble. Plato tried to get Socrates to be a little less out there with his arguements, but at the same time, Plato wrote down many of Socrates' dialogues....I wonder what his motives really were.

Difficult to say because most of what we know about Socrates was written as dialogues by Plato. Socrates' character never admits that he might be wrong in any of these dialogues and seems to disprove his opponents' theory everytime. Plato himself could not very well have written Socrates' character saying "I learned this from Plato". Socrates is historically seen as Plato's teacher but Socrates also says "I am the wisest for I know I know nothing." It is difficult to say how open Socrates would have been to learning from Plato.
