Perverts? Sick and demented? Cosmetic bs?

Go to the AKC site. Read the rules of showing. There is to be nothing artificial on the dogs when they enter the ring. Yes, chalk is often applied to white dogs outside the ring, in the grooming area, but it is supposed to be fully blown out before they actually go into the ring.

As for the actual application of chalk or corn starch (which is what a lot of people use), how is this sick, demented or perverted? Cruel or creepy?

Dogs who are shown are groomed, thoroughly. They are almost to a dog extremely healthy, in excellent condition. They are pampered, often eating better than the handlers. They go potty before the handler takes a break, their needs are met before that of the humans.

They are the stars, and they know it.

Cruel? Creepy? Demented?

I honestly don't know what you are talking about.

Edited to say: Sheer joy of taking anal temps? Holy moly, you met up with a strange person. Taking anal temps has no place in the show ring. I've been showing for decades, and neither I nor anyone I know even has a thermometer in their groom box. Sheer joy of taking anal temps? That IS creepy and perverted, but not a part of dog showing.

Gee you should have ask that question of my first obedience champion.

He was such a ham and so loved the applause that to practice at home we had to set up a ring and hire the neighborhood kids to applaud! No applause, sulky dog. Lots of appause and his ears came up, he got up on his toes and flew through the exercies.

Watch the Wesminster videos of the breed judging and watch my 2 year old's dad winning his breed 2 years in a row - bouncing around the ring (and at 120 lbs, that is a LOT of bounce), tail flying back and forth merrily and coming to the halt in front of the Judge up on his toes with a goofy kind of grin and tail wagging furiously. Looks like he is having a pretty grand time and most proud of himself.

(And his son when not working or dog showing spends his days, sprawled on his special bed with so many toys you can't walk without looking, playing in the yard (called "helping me in the flower beds), going around town on errnads where he is everyone's darling or hiking the beach in his home town which to visit will cost you about $2500 a week to visit - oh yeah, and eats such special food that it has to be delivered. Yep, really really tough life

I'm not a conformation person - hey, I don't even wear makeup and think my hair should just blow dry into position, so what do you expect - so the super careful grooming is a bit of a bore.

I do know that the dogs who show are cossetted, loved, fed better than you are, see the vet for every sneeze or sniffle, go everywhere with their human connections (and CAN go with them as they have utterly immpecable manners!) and have a grand time.

Wanna see a photo of a Westminster Group Winner (right finishing in the top 7 of the show), multiple Best In Show WInner, multiple Best In Show Breed Specialty Winner and No 1 dog in her breed and then No 1 producing dam in her breed happily sprawled on cushions enjoying a pontoon boat ride at her human connections summer home??

Terribly deprived puppy dog.

WHAT IS CREEPY AND WEIRD ARE THESE BOZOS WHO SIT ON A COUCH FOR MOTNHS UPON MONTHS STUFFING THEIR FACES SCREAMNG AT A TV AS THEY WATCH SOME ILLERATE DUMBOS CHASE A BALL!!!

Those people need to get a life!!!!

No I don't. Actually I enjoy going to dog shows and watching them on TV.

No different than Horse Shows, Livestock Shows (and they EAT the winner), Cat Shows etc.

The best thing about these animals is they have to take good care of them if they want to win any shows.

Nah.. Most of the time (note - most) these are normal dogs. When it comes show season, that is the only time these dogs are primped and chalked! But these dog shows bring in A LOT of money for people that show and breed! It keeps breeders wanting to better the breed!

Dog shows are not creepy. As in any competive activity there are people who take things too far, but if you actually went to some shows and talked to the people there you would find that they are the exception, not the rule. And what does perversion have to do with anything?

Also, the "shows" that you are talking about are confirmation shows, only one of the many types of dog showing out there (agility, obedience, earthdog, tracking, the list goes on). So don't lump everyone into your pre-conceived notions.

My dogs are show dogs, and they are also my pets. It is hardly cruel to groom your dog, and as far as the actual showing, most dogs LOVE it! Many breeds, mine included, is wash and wear and they don't get hardly any grooming at all.

A little CHALK on the coat is CRUEL? And what does temperature taking have to do with shows???

What, are you a member of PeTA or HSUS?

I think you have alittle too much time on your hands. Dog shows are not cruel. Applying chalk to their bodies? If there was chalk, wouldn't it get on the clothes of the handler and judge?

sick and demented?....don't think so. In todays world.....I can think of worse.

sorry. dont think so. i mean, it is a lot of that idiotic pride, similar to childrens beauty pageants. but as long as they are not mistreating the animals, i have no personal objection. i dont prefer to watch dog shows anyway.

on what grounds have you formulated your theory that it is gross? i really want to know.
