I've been on medication most of my life for ADHD.
I'm just now beginning to realize that some of my mood swings, thoughts patterns, and even personal problems could be attributed to Strattera the drug i'm currently on. I'm knew to this area, young, and no longer live my parents. I don't really know any creditable doctors and am not sure if I have the ability to discern between them anyway. I need to figure out a remedy, especially for some of these depressive feelings and exhausted feelings that I'm getting. What should I do?

Honey, my daughter went through the same thing. You may need to switch to a different drug, or there is a chance that you no longer need to be on them. She had terrible thoughts , depression, and even at times suicidal (only 10), so we had no choice but to come off the meds. But keep in mind that you may go through somewhat of a with drawl period so it would be wise to call your local hospital and speak to a hospitalist, they can refer you to a Doctor that specializes in ADHD. Good luck!

Geesh, no .. do NOT stop taking your medications without a doctor's advice!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call the local health clinic or mental health clinic -- or both. Ask for a referral to a doctor that specializes in young adults taking medications for ADD/ADHD. Call that doctor and make an appointment. Be honest with the doctor and tell him/her about your side effects and your thoughts about the medications. It may be time to adjust the dosage or to try a different medication.

Either way, you can NOT just stop taking your medications. It can be very dangerous to just stop taking most psychotropic drugs like Strattera. It took 6 weeks to wean my step-daughter off of some of her medications for ADD/ADHD, stepping her down in small pieces until she was completely clean.

Honestly, the best thing to do is talk to your doctor that prescribed them to you. Most likely you are getting some what immune to the original prescription and you might need a new/different prescription drug for your current problems.

BEST ADVICE GO TO YOUR DOCTOR....If you need help with money I'm sure your parents will help you pay for the little extra costs after insurance for something like that. Also, if you need to find a new doctor in your area again ask your old doctor and he/she will advise you about the good doctors in your area. But, your old doctor should still be able to prescribe you as needed as long as you can go see him. If you can't see him...again just call your old doctor he or she will help you!

Good luck

You need to talk to the person who prescribes this med and inform them of the side effects. There are a lot of other meds you could switch to. If you need a good doc contact the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and ask for their recommendation. Sometimes an ADHD kid will become a bipolar adult and this is a dangerous thing that you will need help with. Best of luck to you!

Call your local pharmacist. Explain the problem to them. They generally know more about the drug than any MD. They will direct you to the emergency room or to a Medical Professional who can correct this problem. This can be very serious and you should contact someone immediately

I'd discuss it with a doctor. It may take two or three tries before you find the right one. You might need to see someone in specializes in psychoactive drugs - basically a psychiatrist. Good luck.
