i'd love to just have a tiny band, with obscure instruments, sing a lot of harmony, folk music, be in the indie circuit...

how do i go about doing this?! i don't play an instrument...but i can sing...i just don't know how to find the right people to play with/for me...they all don't take it seriously, won't learn music, etc.

Well i'd say definetly take up singing classes, make your own little band that you can practise with and hopefully that'll get more serious...make sure they can play instruments though! Try putting up posters in or around school about it. make sure they know your serious about it - that'll attract them even more.
i find that playing an instrument and being able to read music makes you a better singer because of the beats and holds of the musical notes. And like everyone else is saying-sing somewhere you can get known! Once you've done all this, your confidence should be shooting up - then when you get out there...you go for it girl! Hope this helped. Don't worry...you've got plenty of time and i'm sure you'll make it if this is truely your dream.

Start by connecting with your local folk music scene. Then check out national opportunities at places like Folkalley.com, Justplainfolks.com, and the folk festival circuit. There are serious players out there, but it is a niche market, no big money for most players.

Keep plugging. Believe in yourself. Good luck!!

First of all, yo should start simple! Put ads out about people that will play in your band and practice, practice, practice. Once you get the oppertunity, play in talent shows and if you feel really good about hows it going on......go play for a club or something. If your lucky....you might get famous! Who knows? :)

Truth be known its not easy to "get started". My best guess would be to find an agent. They can get you networking with the right people and the right places. This may lead you to be discovered! Good luck! I hope to by your CD someday!

maybe get together with some friends and make a band... if you get good enough, maybe you can play for audiences or whatever. i think you need to just find some friends and do it for fun... don't be serious about it.
