OK well i have a BIG question....i know only about 2 of you may agree with me but i still need to ask this, i dont understand the whole bible thing, i mean its a book of stories that arent even proven to be true, there is no actually evidence of god or jesus doing all the stuff the bible says he did. no offense to anyone who believes in it, i just sont understand it, my take on it is that i think someone got bored and just decided to write a book on how the world started. virgin mary getting pregnant with a baby known as jesus? i think she was married or something and cheated and instead of coming clean she just pretened to screw with people cuz know had done it before so why not make it all up?
plus, i have noticed that most people who are either druggies or abuse women or something seem to be the ones always saying they believe in god and all that. i mean whenever someone's life turns to crappy they say god will make it better, i just dont understand it all, i dont mean to offend.

I agree with you a 100% and couldn't have it said better myself. Mother Mary was apparently married to Josef and they never had sex, so she probably cheated on him or was already pregnant when she married Josef. And I couldn't agree with you more about mean evil people who go to church so God forgives them for their sins and comes Monday around, they are mean as hell again and just wait for Sunday to go back to church and confess. For some people its the last hope, because they are so down and beg for God's help, however when everything is going well, they don't even think about God. I still believe the church is a good think for some week people and to better themselves and have hope for a more peaceful live. I know, I am going to get hit with my answer, but that shows you how small thinking people really are and attacking other people. But its okay, Sunday is just around the corner.
What me always puzzled was, when God created Adam and Eve, what color where they, what did they look like? Where they asians, arabics, African people, white people, or did he make a pair of each race?
I have read the bible to and went to bible study when I was a kid and went to church every Sunday. I am an evangelist/lutheran and I have changed my thinking.

The Bible is not myth. The Bible it is historically and archaeologically accurate. To say that it is myth is to assert something that simply is not true. It is a false premise to begin with.
It is not a myth that Jesus lived, nor is it a myth that Paul the apostle and the other apostles lived. It is not a myth that Abraham lived, or Moses, or David, or Solomon, etc. The Bible speaks of Jerusalem, Egypt, Assyrian, the Jordan River, Bethlehem, the Nile River, the Euphrates River, pharaohs, Kings, and so many other things that have been verified through history.
While we had knowledge that mythical stories can include actual places, this is not the case with the Bible. It teaches and assumes factual people, events, and places. Its style is written as a history book, of those who have actually seen what has happened, of those who have been there.
Furthermore, if people want to claim that the Bible is myth, then let them prove it. They would be hard-pressed to establish that the Bible and the stories in it are nothing more than fabrications. When it comes time for the critics to back up his claim that the Bible is nothing but myth, they often crumble in their arguments since they have no truth in their statements.
Usually those who deny the authenticity of the Bible also deny that miracles are possible. When someone says that miracles cannot happen, that is why the Bible is myth. They can't accept that miracles are real and since the Bible has them, then it must be myth to them. But that just begs the question. To assume miracles cannot happen and then to subject the Bible to their assumption is merely to not prove anything. It means the person assumes to be true what he is trying to prove.
Many people doubt the Bible for various reasons. One of them is that the Bible is not accurate scientifically. But this just isn't so. The Bible is not a book about science, but when it does speak scientifically, it is accurate. In fact, it was far ahead of any other writing of its time.
Please consider the following:
The Shape of the Earth - Isaiah 40:22
The Hydrologic Cycle - Job. 36:27-28
The Concept of Entropy - Psalm 102:22-26

Its no doubt that religion has screwed a lot of things up and certenaly is the reason for a lot of wrong that have happened to people..
Best way i can tell you in a nut shell is this,,, Look at the facts first.... the bible has not bee proven wrong or incorrect by its historical record... okay like the city of babaylon,,, and cultures in persia,, which is modern iraq and iran and so on...
second,, many prophercies in the bible had come true,... example King Cyrus becoming king in the first place.. this was written about 400 years before he was born and he did as the bible said let the nation of israel return and rebuild their temple....
more modern thing that came true is the year 1914.. Why is this iimportant to prove the bible is inspired by God? Thbe book of Daniel has a prophercy the state the 70 weeks of years.. in short,,, the nation of isreal was destroyed by babaylon in 607 bc and using the prophercy you get to the modern year 1914.... Everything went to crap at that time... since then the world has gotten worse... this is the year Jesus would of been enthroned in "heaven" and if you beleive Satan was casted to the earth... ok
Bible also has a lot to do with medicen like the ill having them quartined.. even today doctord dont to that.... which is why we have epedemics of certain deseies.. these are just a couple fact finding reasons why you should trust the bible. to start with.

Most people who like to argue about the Bible have never read it, at least not all the way through, maybe bits and pieces if that.
My first comment is that some of what you say has merit. Parts of the Old Testament are a sort of health code for the times they were written in. Much of it is the same history told from differing perspectives. There are some good lessons in it, like the Ten Commandments. Nowhere does it say it is the exclusive word of God, and we know it was written over a long period.
Many things people think are in the Bible are not. You mentioned Mary being a virgin, that is not from the Bible. Isn't in there. Mary Magdalene was a reformed prostitute? That isn't in the Bible either. Much of what people will quote you is from sources other than the Bible.
Look at it as a guide to good behavior, though parts do contradict one another. It will tell you that no man knows when the second coming will be, but in Revelations it says it will happen in a thousand years (which means it was a thousand years in our past).
It is not unusual for the same people who will tell you that the Bible if the perfect word Of God, and every word literally true will turn around and tell you the parts that are in contradiction need to be interpreted, their pick.
Many of the most vocal about religion are fleeing from or hiding something about themselves, you are very perceptive there.
The Bible continues to be revised and "explained". Then put on the same level as God, which is a form of Idolatry. There is an annotated Bible with notes made by a drug addict named Schofield that many believe in, including G.W.Bush.
For myself, I've read the Bible through a few times, also the Koran. My belief is that the Creator is our parent and would be our friend if we allow it. Act as you believe a loving parent would want you to. Flee anybody who wants you to believe they can interpret the Bible better than you can for yourself (and try to read it some day, it isn't all that hard to do). Flee faster from anybody that thinks they have the exclusive, one and only, true religion. Don't buy a car from them either.

I hope that you will understand that I am going to answer this from a personal experience. Let me tell you about me. I have been a Christian for 2 years now. I was a wiccan. I found out not about the Bible, but about GOD all by myself. I had heard about prayers being answered and I was very fearful and I "prayed" ,or maybe pleaded would be a more right word, for help at a desperate moment. I got exactly what I asked for. That has happened several times since then as well. The Bible has been around for over 2,000 years through countless attempts to abolish it. The words in that ancient text are still ringing true today. There are still people dying to preserve the Word of God today. As well, scholars proved that Jesus did live at that time period. Oh and for you to know, I'm not offended, I understand the question very well, I asked it not too long ago. I pray that someday you will understand the word conviction, and I will be able to say "welcome to the family"

I want you to know that there are alot of people that think what you think and it is a very valid question but almost everything in the bible has been found, and proven true. Any time that some one has tried to prove something in the Bible to be wrong or just a story they couldn't all they've found is more and more evidence that the stories are true.
I also believe your going at this with the totally wrong perspective. There is a man named Dr. Kent Hovand and I bet if you do some research on him, he has an amazing collection of vidios/dvds that prove alot of things that are true. You can also get ahold of him and ask ANY question and I'm sure he can help you!
Please email me if there is anything I can help you with and I want you to know that I really want to help you and people who feel the same way as you, so feel free!

I understand that the bible can seem outdated and overwhelming but actually alot of the prophecies that were written in the bible came true and many of them like cyrus the great and his conquest can be found in the bible and in other secular history books. As far as people lives turning out bad, alot of it can be their own bad habits and sometimes not. But people who truly believe in god and say they are doing his will are hypocrits if they are abusing women, or drugs, or doing anything like that. The people who are truly following what the bible says are the ones who are doing it even if it is not popular thinking or even if it's not easy. They follow not just parts of the bible but all of it. You can do a little research at a time and it may seem easier to understand.

Only one God would have created the universe and it's only the Bible God that tells us how precisely He created. You're correct that God is all-understanding however He does no longer remove your potential to make selections otherwise He would have stopped everybody from creating a mistaken selection.

Faith is the answer. I am a believer and I too have trouble with taking all the stories literally but I still absorb and accept the symbolism of them. At one point i questioned who Adam and Eve's children mated with... their siblings? I wasn't there, i don't know but I do believe the Bible is God moving people to write his words. The bottom line to me is this whole world started from somewhere, from someone, some ultimate creator and in him I believe. One day it will all be clearer to everyone

Well, Bible study was a part of literature course I studied in University. Hence, those professors don't recognize Bible as fact.
I myself would give Bible as much credit as I would give to Greek mythology. In my opinion, it's just another attempt to explain natural phenomenas before human learn more about science. One says "God is an image created out of man's insecurities" and I agree with it.
