Don't know how often you can jog. BUT, if you'd like a great alternative to jogging you can try "rebounding." This is done on a "rebounder"--a round, mini-trampoline. It is fantastic fun, and will provide you with all and more of the benefits from jogging, without risking serious injury/damage to your joints. Many of the rebounders available can fold in half and can be stored under a bed or in a closet. NASA utilizes rebounding for their astronauts when they return from space. Rebounding stresses the body (and all of your cells) in a positive way. Every cell membrane is strengthened through this process. In addition to a great cardio workout, the body becomes stronger and more toned.

AND--it only takes building up to 15-20 minutes 3-4 times/week to reap the benefits. In fact, regarding health benefits, 10 minutes on a rebounder is equivalent to 30 minutes of jogging.

with all the weirdo health nuts out, im pretty sure jogging has been found unhealthy by some. but then again, you have to consider breathing the dirty air unhealthy, walking around outside with all the diseases and germs unhealthy... get my point? if you have joint problems, its probably worse for you, but i jog about every day. no worries. if you have questions, the best person to ask is your doctor, they know how your body will react to it, on a personal level, not as an average.

Jogging is indeed hard on the knees, hips, and ankles, and back. If you jog on a dirt or sponge track your jarring will be lessened quite alot. Jogging on asphalt is safer that jogging on concrete...believe it or not the alphalt gives a bit more.
Its okay to jog every other day...that will give your joints time to mend themselves.
PS...good quality shoes will make a huge difference.

The absolute most critical thing you can do to prevent injury is to purchase a new pair of sneakers every 200-400 miles of running. Sometimes the sneakers still look new, but the support wears away. I used to run about 6-13 miles a day, only once had an injury when the sneakers got old.

One option to help save your joints would be to use a treadmill and walk really fast on an incline. Same aerobic benefits without the stress on your body. I'm afraid all the runners out there are going to pay as they get older. Hiking is good too--great cardio and muscle workout without the damage.

You should jog as long and as far as you want without pain. If it doesn't hurt, nothing's wrong.
