What exactly IS Hollywood North? I know it has to do with a great number of films being filmed in British Columbia, but what is the attraction about BC and what did BC do to earn that nickname?

Well, in the olden days (like two years ago) the Canadian dollar was weak and it was cheap to shoot films in BC. The warm climate and combination of big city + nature made it easy to shoot films in BC and make them look like they were filmed anywhere (think the X Files, Dark Angel, X-Men, Double Jeopardy, etc). Now that the Canadian dollar is stronger it's not as cheap to film in Canada. The nickname just came about because of the sheer number of films made in BC.

I live in Vancouver, BC, the centre of Hollywood North and there are still lots of movies being filmed here. Besides the past weakness of the Canadian dollar against the strong US dollar, many tax breaks and concessions are given to movie/TV-making here.
