I had friends over on Halloween (2 days ago) and they fed my male kitten (6 months old) a few spicy doritos. Since then, my cat has gained a loss in appetite and sleeps all day (as opposed to being playful all day usually). I'm curious to know what is wrong with my cat, and if there's anything I can do myself to make my cat better again.

It is normal for a cat to be sick after eating foods that are too spicy or that they are not used to. If she cannot hold down food, she may have a blockage that could be fatal. I would take her to my vet, if I were you

The first step would be to take it to the vet and have it professionally looked at....You never know what the problem might be by her being fed and eating spicy doritos....Whoever did that is pretty much of an irresponsible idiot....Just ridiculous! So if you are a responsible pet owner, you would have already taken the kitten in to be checked....

Hallowe'en isn't the greatest for cats, it seems.

Ours chewed a glow-in-the-dark seasonal thingamajig last weekend; we were up very early with a cat -- well, 7.5 mth old kitten -- with a lot of foam at the mouth, drooling profusely.

We called the 24hr vet's office. Was her breathing okay? Yes, quite -- no obvious distress save the foam and drool.

The instructions: rinse her mouth out with water. Come in if the foaming persists, but if it stops, she's just eaten something she shouldn't have. (We had not noticed the leaking glow-in-the-dark stuff at that point.)

She puked twice over the next day or two, but she's quite fine now. Rinsing out her mouth wasn't even particularly difficult; we didn't even get scratched, and she barely fussed. Have a friend who's in thick clothes and okay with getting a bit damp hold her, and be ready with a large cup of room-temperature water.

Moral: pick up the phone. Plus, given the good advice I got (including the comment that their rates were cheaper after 8am; I rang around 7), for free, I'd even go as far as to suggest calling another veterinary hospital if confronted with either "just bring the cat in," or "it's all fine," in the absence of other commentary.

Put out lots of fresh water in the meantime, and be generous with the cat treats...

The correct thing to do with your friends does not, however, require a phone call. Simply ask on Yahoo! Answers, in the Food & Drink section, what sorts of dish might easily be prepared so as to look appealing despite containing mostly cat food. Then bring it over to your friends' homes, and serve it up.

Okay; ten minutes after I typed this, said 'fine now' kitten puked in my lap. The moral to that? Beware of answers on Yahoo! Answers...

I don't think a dorito did this. Are you sure he's not a nocturnal cat? They are naturally but you have to determine if he's sick. Nose warm and dry? Is he eating and drinking and pooping? if yes then I say he may have worms? All cats and dogs are born with worms and they can do that, make them tired. Belly swollen? Have little rice like pellets around rectum? If so, it's tapeworms and you need a pill from the vet. That will get rid of them. Worms can kill a young kitten so get it treated. good luck. Get it to the vet if it hasn't been.

I would not take it to the vet right away since it costs like $30 for a check-up. Wait a few days and it might have eaten something else besides doritos..

Let it ride its course. The cat is probably feeling a bit woosey! Are you sure Doritos are the only thing it was fed?

Give it a couple more days, make sure you watch him closely to see if he is eating and drinking water. He probably just has a bit of a tummy ache (poor thing). If his condition starts to decline, or you cant get him to eat or drink take him to the vet. You don't want him to get overly dehydrated.

Good luck!

If he still is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom he should be alright other than a bad tummy ache. Please keep a close watch on your kitty. Any drastic changes it is then very important to call your vet and take him in asap.
