People often tell me that I have a slight accent, and ask me what country I'm from. Problem is... I'm not from a foreign country! I have no idea what they are talking about--I don't notice an accent, even when I hear a recording of my own voice--but I've been told this by MANY strangers... I guess I have a speech impediment that sounds like a foreign accent. I don't WANT to have a fake accent. Any ideas on how to fix this, when I don't even hear it myself?

I'd say don't worry about it, maybe, but you can see a speech pathologist. They are trained to analyze your speech and they may be able to tell you exactly what about your speech people are reacting to.

Nobody hears their own accent. I live in a place where there are so many accents I often don't even notice them and sometimes I can't even hear them. People from small towns where everybody was born there are real good at noticing accents different from their own.

Don't worry, be happy.

I know this one girl at work, who I swear talks like she's "straight out da hood" and she swears up and down that she doesn't notice a thing. If that many people agree that you have an accent, there's probably a hint of truth in there. It may sound extreme, but you may want to go to a speech thereapist or a vocal coach. Peace y'all.

Learn to love it. It is probably extremely sexy. Accents always are (in my opinion, of course).

You probably don't have an accent. Don't worry about it.
