Your question is a complex one. That is good. In many cases religion has helped people and offered them hope when there was nothing else for them. This is a very big benefit, of course. In contrast, a big negative would be that a person's religion allows them to see "others" as less than or worthless in the eyes of their own God. Wars have been fought and are being fought for this reason. People have been and are being exterminated. Of course, no one really "knows" who has God on their side. But people keep killing in the name of God--by telling themselves that that is what God wants them to do.* This is a perversion of religion I think. The people of the world are those who ultimately lose. War robs human potential and human spirit. Religion is supposed to build these qualities. How does religion lead some toward hatred and violence? That's the biggest problem. For that I have no answer.

* I'm not sure about other religions, but Christianity forbids killing. It's even in the commandments, "Thou shall not kill."

No, I do not. Human weaknesses, ego, and selfish desires cause the world's problems. These are also what causes the problems which happen within religion. The religions themselves are not the problem, and can be part of the solution, if the religion teaches purity of intent and morality.

No.
Human beings have something called free will or agency.
Religion is only a vehicle, a platform or an excuse to make good or bad choices and to reap the attendant consequences of those choices.
God gives us this freedom to choose because we are here to learn to become as He is someday and this because we are His children no matter how humans choose to worship Him or not to worship Him.
Humans and human will along with the influence and power of the evil one, often called satan, the devil, lucifer, etc... is the cause of all the worlds problems. This evil influence seeks only our misery and to be miserable as he is and will be forever. Satan is real and not just a figment of our imagination.
God seeks to influence humans, his children, insomuch as we are willing to yield to his influence, his laws and thus reap the consequences of doing so.
God is real and is our Father, not figuratively but literally the father of our spirit bodies which possess these mortal bodies.
And someday after we put these mortal bodies to rest our spirits and our bodies will be reunited into a perfect, immortal body to stand before the judgement seat of Christ, who has brought about this physical redemption from the grave through His resurrection, and at this judgement seat every human being that has ever lived upon this earth will have to give an account of his or her life, whether they have done good or whether they have done evil according to the knowledge of the laws of God as they had access to these laws.
Unto whom much is given, much will be required and unto whom little is given less will be required.
To every human is given discernment between right and wrong no matter when, where or who they were borne to. This discernment is called the light of Christ and is dulled or increased depending upon the evil or good choices made by each person.
I hope this helps.

No, if you give it further thought, it's not religion's fault. Religion is the EXCUSE. The problem is that some people think that everyone else must conform to their beliefs or else they are "bad." These people are mental. Haven't you noticed how often the people who go whole-hog into religion (any particular religion--it doesn't matter which one) are usually unstable people who need psychotherapy? If religion didn't exist for these nutty people to find their outlet, they'd just find something else to use as their "purpose in life" such as politics, or they'd just create their own religion! :)

When you close your eyes and think very very clear, you will realize that God, a loving scientist from an advanced planet, is an advocate of harmony.

Now, back to religious empires causing problems: In the name of a harmony loving God, these empires have caused most of the world problems. (In the name of God)

Well the world daily is getting worse and worse , I think that as humans we need to have an opened mind about Christianity, and About Who Jesus is. I think that people who not have yet experienced Who Jesus is, Or what salvation is like, that Makes society worse than what it needs to be. We put problems on ourselves.

I believe in God, the Creator of all Heaven, earth, human, and live thing. He has my life in His hands, I accept him as my savior, my father. He is the only one that can fufill and meet my full needs. Humans fall, but the Lord is there to pick us back up.
