i live with my parents now temporarily and i have a 2 year old daughter. she gets up really early in the morning and by the time i get her up and get her ready for daycare and come back home im ready to go back to bed for a couple more hours. she gets up about 630am. i also work parttime and weekends so i do pull my weight around the house. im just getting frustrated. the other day i told her i was so tired and she said oh well your not taking a nap because no one takes naps in this house. she thinks that if you take naps you are depressed. is she being irrational?

Yes she is being irrational. Taking a nap doesn't mean you are depressed. It means you are lacking sleep! Especially since you have a 2 yr old. I'd try to live on my own if possible, then you wouldn't have to worry about your Mom hassling you. If you can't, try hard to get to bed as soon as you can. Or add up your hours of sleep, and let your mother know it's not enough. i have a 13 month old, and I take one nap in the morning hours when he is asleep because I sometimes don't get enough sleep.
Being your Mom's house, I don't really know what else you could say to her other than you put your share of work around the house, and are responsible, and deserve to take a nap when needed.

Naps are wonderful!! I have three kids so they are few and far between but I take them when I can. If there is nothing pressing and you are pulling your weight at home, then you should be able to take a nap. My only question would be why is your daughter in daycare while you are home? I know some daycares will only let a child come if they are there before nine am. This may be your case if you work in the after noon. Just curious, not critisizing. I would definantly nap if I could.

Think back to when YOU were a kid...did YOUR mother take naps? Only time I got to take a nap was when I was sick. I worked fulltime outside the home and was up every weekday morning at 4:00am so I could get ready for work before getting my daughter up and ready to go by 5:00am. Her father would pick her up from day care (I would drop her off most of the time), I usually put in a 10 to 12 hour day, then it would be home, get dinner ready, eat, and clean up just in time to start getting daughter ready for bed. She was in bed before 8:00pm and I usually headed to my room at that time where I would get prepared for bed myself. On the weekends it was housecleaning and spending time with my daughter. Naps were a VERY rare thing especially since SHE quit napping at a year old. So no, your mother is not being irrational. You just need to learn how to deal with life as it comes tired or not.

I would say as long as you are pulling your weight financially & around the house & taking care of your daughter yourself if you want to take a nap while she is at daycare you should be able to. Just explain to her that many nights while she is sleeping you are working or doing laundry, etc. and need some time to "catch up" on your sleep. You're in a tough situation - I lived with my parents from the time I was 5 months pregnant until my daughter was 6 months old & it is indeed, difficult. Good luck to you.

Naps are a good thing, as long as you are not over sleeping that could be worse for you. I would ask though, are you getting enough sleep at night? I know toddlers are very active, but 630am is not that early to start ones day.Usually it's in the afternoon after a long day of running after a toddler one needs a nap. If on a daily basis you are physically exhausted after just getting up in the morning, you might want talk to your doctor.

Yes she is. I don't believe in taking naps longer than an hour because then you become pretty much lazy for the rest of the day, your body is almost too relaxed. A quick nap will refresh your body and allow you to be more motivated for the rest of the day. As long as you are getting everything you need done, a nap is well deserved!

I hate to say this but most people get up at 6:30 in the morning. What time do you go to bed at night?

I can understanding napping if you were sick or worked long hours but you only work part time. I suggest getting to bed by 10 at night for a full nights sleep.

i am currently in the same position as you are, my son is 16 months old. I live with my parents and he goes to day care as well, and during the day i have to have a nap sometimes so i can be be in a good and healthy mood to pick him up, prepare dinner and get him bathed etc all ready for the next day!
some times it just needs to be done!
she will get over it eventually, and if possible let her look after her for 2 days from start to finish and see if she feels like taking a nap in the afternoon!

As long as you are working to pay for you and your child's needs and helping around the house...then I can't understand why you cannot take a nap. That is ridiculous! My son is 11 years old and on my day off, I take a nap!

In some European countries, it is customary for people to take a nap around 4 p.m. The body's natural circadium rhythm starts dropping at about that time, so it's common for a lot of people to get sleepyish that time of day... and that goes WITHOUT having a small child.

I don't want to insult your mother, but yeah, she's being a *****.
