Every By-law I have checked out has a 3 dog limit. None of them recognize a "Hobby" Breeder. You have to have minimum acreage, a kennel License, it has to be a seperate building, it has to have a cement floor, hot and cold running water, electricity. What happened to having your dogs as pets living in your home and breeding purebred dogs maybe once or twice a year as a HOBBY BREEDER!!! This is not a business...it is a HOBBY...like sewing, knitting, painting, breeding your dog, and I don't mean a backyard breeder of mutts. Members of CKC, and other clubs. We just want to live somewhere where we can have our dogs with us and they can be spoiled like they are and once or twice a year breed a litter.

Yea, most places have pet limits. It is stupid and doesn't address the problems it is suppose to. The hoarders can't stop because they are mentally ill, and it doesn't stop the people who can't handle their ONE dog and leave it tied and barking night and day.

I would be VERY careful about applying for a breeder/kennel license. They often use the applications to see that you are over your limit and will then come and seize your dogs.

I just try to stay under ACs radar and I have a 6ft wood fence. My dogs are quiet and well cared for, I doubt my neighbors know I have 5 dogs.

Good luck in your search.

Not sure where you are from but in El Paso Texas we are allowed to breed 2 litter per female per year. You do have to get a litter permit but can have 4 dogs not including puppies. In the county which is just outside the city there it is much more lenient.

If you are looking in Canada one you may try Ontario,Alberta or Lasalle Manitoba. We have friends that live up there and they have over 10 dogs.

If you live on minimum of 2 acres of land or more can have as many animals as you can reasonable afford to take care of and keep from straying off your land. What happened is that there are more and more people taking up land and the more people the more laws are needed. The best place naturally is the country.where the nearest neighbor is several acres away Good luck and hope you find the land you need

There are no restrictions where we live. Small town USA. I know they are trying to change the laws everywhere like the ones you mention, and like you, I so disagree with this. My dogs are raised in my home and no one should be able to tell me I have to stick them outside in a building! That is just not right!

Dogs shouldn't be a hobby. they are not a crafty sort of thing. they are living, breathing, animals. Why would you breed them for a hobby? Sounds like a backyard breeder to me. Please stop doing this! There are millions of unwanted pets turned into shelters each year! Many of them are euthanized!
BREEDING IS NOT GOOD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

WHERE DO YOU LIVE? I LIVE IN NH AND THERE ARE MAYBE 1 OR 2 TOWNS THAT HAVE LIMITS.
HOWEVER, INSTEAD OF BREEDING AS A HOBBY, GO VOLUNTEER IN AN ANIMAL SHELTER AND HELP CARE FOR ALL THE "HOBBY" LEFTOVERS BROUGHT ABOUT BY NEEDLESS BREEDING.

Alaska, probably. WE do have enough dogs extant, though.
