The advice my mother gave me when I had a baby:

Babies WILL cry. Change them, feed them, rock them, and if they're still crying and you can't take it, put them down in the baby bed and leave the room for five minutes.

It always made me feel like I had permission from someone who'd been through it before to go ahead and put them down when I was at wits end.

If you can at all, find someone that can take over a few times(or even once) a week so you can have the time to do something "normal" for yourself! Even if you are anxious at first, you will be a better mother if you give yourself time to enjoy the things you like to do.
This was not a luxury I had for the first seven months of my daughter's life, since my husband is in the army. But I know it would have made a HUGE difference for me and my energy level!

Have patience and the strength to ask for help!

As much as we all want to be super mom we just can't! You need to have patience for yourself, for your significant other and for your child(ren) but know when you're reaching your limit. Don't be afraid to ask your S.O. to help you out so that you can have a few minutes of me time or call someone to watch the baby while you take a nap or ask them to pick up that gallon of milk or bread next time they're at the store. You'll feel a lot more capable and less likely to break down if you realize now that you can't do it all.

maybe not exactly advice, but i wanted to say, that no matter how much other people try to help you with their opinions on how to raise you child (because they think that because you are a new mother you must be completely ignorant when it comes to being a parent) that whether you listen or do it,that your child will teach you to be a better parent than any relative or friend.have fun and enjoy the baby years while they last.

well I would tell them to enjoy the good times as well as the bad and when they are really really rotten guess what laugh it off because many years later these things will be funny as all get out but at the time you wanted to beat them to death hahahaha. Take everything with a smile they are only little for such a short time and it flys by. Good Luck

Don't sweat the small stuff, smile and thank the grandma's when they tell you how to raise your child, and remember that in a very few short years you really will miss the sticky faces, hands and toys all over the house!!

If someone offers to help you with anything take their help. And don't worry about the dishes or the laundry. You and your baby come first.
