There are a lot of families on my street with kids and people like to race down this street, I am very concerned that one of the kids will eventually get hit.

The first step in getting speed humps for your street is to request a study from the Department of Transportation. DOT engineers look at the condition of the street and its traffic speed and volume to see if it meets their criteria.

If the street is eligible, the second step is signing petitions. DOT provides petitions that must be signed by 75% of the residents on either side of the street proposed for street humps. Following the collection of enough signatures, the residents may submit an application with the petition.

These steps may vary from one municipality to another, but you can probably get more detailed information from your city information office.

Write a letter and then go to your next city council meeting. During the part of the meeting where people are allowed to speak on any item that's not on the agenda, go to the podium and read your letter. Then call the City Manager's secretary every week until you get a yes or no answer. You can ask for a raised crosswalk, which is just a big speed bump.

Speed bumps make you almost stop. I doubt you will get those put on your street. They are more for parking lots etc. I suggest a much easier route. Contact your local police dept and the will put a cruiser at the end of your street with a radar gun. The officer wont be too happy, but hey its their job. Do that for a few days at random times and it will most likely have instant results. Good Luck.

If you live on a street they don't usually put speed bump on a public street. Sometimes you can get a stop sign put in to help slow down traffic, but people who use this street consider it a public area not a privately owned street.

With the New Bilstein Shock absorbers, the are designed to absord speed bump anyways. These companies counteract whatever government puts in place. Also Bosch and another 8 suspencion and shock absorber companies already are producing them cheaply. Alowing drivers to ignore any bumps at their pleasure and also protecting the car.

Get a jack hammer and put a bunch of pot holes all over the road. The road won't look so tempting to racers after that ;)

you will want to draft a letter with your many reasons in it. If you can find statistics about how many speeding tickets, etc., include those. Get as many people as you can to sign it and send it to your mayor. I am sure they will look into it.
