My roommate just turned 19 so we're going to Canada for the weekend. I'm also 19 but I haven't been to a bar or ordered drinks before.

What are some recommendations of drinks I should try?

For Beer there are a ton of canadian beers but we also have Coors and budweiser. If you wanna be canadian than drink Molson Canadian. Or Canadian Club Rye/Whiskey and Gingerale.
Typically the woman drink coolers or Sex on the beach and the guys drink Canadian or Budweiser and Whiskey or Rum and Coke.
I like Guiness personally but it's an aquired taste.

Where in Canada are you going I live in Toronto I can tell you some good places to go.

Ask the bartender to recommend beers from local breweries. Pale Ales are usually a good bet.

Jack and Cokes are my staple mixed drink - or try any Kentucky Bourbon + coke.

For froufier mixed drinks, stick to stuff made with vodka or tequila or rum- gin is nasty and I still don't know how anyone can swallow it, except for maybe Long Island iced Teas( these will kill you - they are basically every type of liquor mixed with cola) here are some:
-Fuzzy Navel
-Screwdriver
-Black Russian ( if you like coffee flavor)
-Kamikaze
-Sex on the Beach
-Screwdriver
-Cosmopolitan
Hopefully these drinks are the same in canada as in the u.s!
Also, as far as wine/ punch, Sangria is yummy, but it can depend on the place.

Try some Canadian microbrew beers, the bartenders can help you.

If you can spring the dough and have a taste for premium sweet wines, there icewine are very good too.

One other cocktail that seems to be fancied by only Canadians is Bloody Caesar. It's a bloody mary with clam juice in it.

Depends on what you like. I tend to like drinks that don't taste too much like booze. So Jack Daniels is out for me. Some of the "softer" tasting drinks... but still give a good buzz include:

Fuzzy Navel (oj and peach snaps)
Brown Cow (Kahlua and milk.... tastes like chocolate milk)
Amaretto sour
black russian (i think... can't remember it too well!)

in terms of shots, alabama slammers are less pungent.

Canadian beer is better than american too. So you're good with that also.

Canadian beer is world renowned for it's supiriority over the lesser american piss. Stay away from Labatt and Molson..and even Keiths (sorry alex) it's all crap. Check out more interesting microbrews interspaced with interesting shots like broken down golf carts and electric popsicles

YOU LUCKY SUCKA!!!
I always wanted to go to a different country and drink before I was 21, but I made up for it by going to vegas for my 21st in june.

Order a dr.jager (jagermiester and dr.pepper) - tastes like cherry dr.pepper
Order a "Maredsous" Its a belgin ale thats three times a regular beer so you drink about 6oz. of it and its soooo smooth.

Drink anything and everything you can.

Anything you want. The one drink you won't find in the US is Cesars.

I suggest going to a microbrewery. They will have trays of samplers of beer you can try (if you're a beer drinker).

We drink the same things in Canada.

You're only allowed to drink Canadian Club in Canada. And LaBatt. That's it!

Rickers red beer is awsome. I just got back from Niagra and you can only get that beer in Canada. Try it you won't be disappointed.
