Yes if there is parental consent (my son's school sent home permission forms for parents to sign saying it was okay to do random searches throughout the year).
In absence of having a consent form on file, I think a drug test should only be if there is evidence of drugs and the law enforcement has been called in and even then the parent should be notified before the test takes place.

Yes, but the students would have to sign a contract first.
Some positives are:
-can help enforce drug laws in schools
-students are less motivated to do drugs if they know its easy to get caught.
Negatives:
-if a student takes antibiotics or medicine and it classifies as a drug
-violating privacy of students.
Overall, I believe the law should be similar to the wiretapping law. It shouldn't really be random, but rather based on suspicion or speculation by teachers if they think students are doing drugs.
However, it should seemingly be random in the fact that students don't know when it is coming.

And then what? Is this to do the modern day witch hunt or to actually find people that need help? Seeing how we usually treat drug addicts by incarceration I would think the former would be the motivation.
NO, I do not think you should engage is such an invasive procedure at this point in time. The prevailing attitude is to punish people with a very serious problem. Which is how and why addictions is spreading. There is no effective cure and as long as we punish people there won't be. Punishment only breeds a better "criminal", they become good at hiding their problem. And they become good at crimes necessary to garner funds to pay for their addiction.
Peace.

I think random drug tests at schools would really help clean up the students. The parents and the school should do more to get rid of drugs in our school system.

NO-and here is why
the PARENTS (or legal guardians) are in charge of the medical evaluations and care received by their children NOT THE STATE.
will the entire US population naively lay down their rights? Can you not see the precedent this would set? If you want random testing then pass legislation and apply it to ALL US CITIZENS AND IMMIGRANTS not just a small and insignificant portion of the populous.

No. The other responders are correct. It's an unreasonable search. It would be like the cops showing up ot search your house without a search warrant. Can't do that. However, if you're at a private school or if it's your employer the ball game is different.

I think they should be able to because its about trusting the kids that attend your school. And if kids are doing drugs and getting away with that, thats not very good for the schools reputation and these kids would get kicked out of school. And that will make your school more of a better place.

Well with a parents permission or possibly a court order....personally I think it violates 4th amendment rights...illegal search and seizure...why do you think they have you sign a contract.(never give up a right granted you by your constitution)pay attention in government class
