I have wavy hair now and it is very plyable (I hope that is the right word). My hair does whatever I want it to with some work. It goes curly or straight but if I perm it that means less work for me. But I still want to have straight days. Is that possible?

There are many different perm rod sizes that you may want to look at before going on with a perm. You may want tight curls, or you may want loose curls, and a perm can do both for you. Make sure that you have NO bleach on your hair because perm solution and bleach do NOT work well together. When you get the perm and you decide you want straight hair for the day, purchase some thermal spray protectant and spritz a tiny bit on each section of hair that you flat iron, this will protect your hair strands from the heat of the iron. Some one mentioned that the heat of the iron will ruin the perm chemical and that information is incorrect. After the perm solution is applied, a neutralizer is applied to lock in the curl. So your perm isn't gonna go anywhere until its time to have it done again, which should be 4 to 6 months.

Hope this helps!

Honestly, I'd say straightening your hair every day is worse in the long run. Even with heat protectant. Generally when I've worked with hair there was little difference in the people who use heat protectant or not. Either way, you're applying heat regardless. Otherwise, the straight perm does cause huge amounts of damage, but you can at least restore the moisture. Otherwise, if you're washing your hair every day to give it a fresh start, adding heat protectant which has drying ingredients, then blow drying it and ironing it every day, then you aren't allowing enough time to repair your hair with deep conditioning or anything like that

Ok thats funny. I am an African American. We have been using flat irons for almost 20 years, seriously, no ****. If it will work to straighten our hair, I don't see a curly perm as being any trouble for it, especilly with the recent advances in the technology of flat irons.

It depends on your hair, but you should be able to straighten it out. Just use a good hair product for that. Ask your stylist what she recommends for straightening after a perm.

yeah but it will be harder and take more time
i have naturally curly hair and not a very good straightener and it takes me 4 hours to straighten my hair, actually no straightener i've ever used ( my friends have good ones :P) has ever made my hair stay straight for more than 3 hours.
why do you want to straighten your hair if you got a perm to have curly hair?

Yes, you can still straighten it but if you get to tight of a perm, it will be alot more work and the result will be sort of a 'stiff' result.

Of course it is... You should just by two straightning products one for wet hair and one when it is dry, try Aquage Straightning Ultra Gel (wet) and Beyond shine (Dry) They have silicone in them and will protect your hair as well as make it easier for you to style without compromising th curl

Yes, it is very possible. You just need to know how to do it so it will look good. When you are straightening it do it in sections and use a good straightner. Good Luck
