In any case, most popular in what sense? Most popular among the Third World countries, among the intellectual elites, among the senior citizens...etc...what? Your question is too vague. But if your question is whether Buddhism would be the religion with the largest number of adherents, I would still qualify the answer, because in my experience most folks who call themselves "Buddhists" are really nominal believers.

I don't think there will be more "Buddhists" in the future but I do believe that the humble and enlightened way of life encouraged by buddism will hopefully one day be the most practiced set of values as people become more educated and realize that are no right answers.
