Any normal dog (ie no pitbulls) will get along with other animals in the house if he/she grows up around them. Alot of times they become friends. I recommend labs and golden retrievers for this but most calm breeds will get along just fine. Just remember to introduce them carefully as both sides will be anxious especially the cats. Don't let them stay alone together until you are ABSOLUTELY sure they will get along fine.

If you will get a puppy, it will grow up being used to your cats and will not bother them. Although when a puppy is little, it will want to play with your cats but most grown cats can put a puppy in its place real quick like. I have 2 Boston Terriers and they are really friendly and playful and they are also really smart. They love everybody. I like them because they are not to big to keep inside if you want too, but they are big enough that they can live outside.
My male Boston is named Spanky and my female is named China. They really are sweet dogs and they think that they are just part of the family. When I go to bed at night, I tell them that its time to go to bed and they go to bed and sleep until morning. They do not get out of bed until they see me get out of bed. You
really should consider this breed if you want a family dog that loves everyone in the family.

bloodhounds are very easy to get along with. very laid back.
but a dog from the humaine society can be a treasure. here is how to find one.
see if the dog will lay on its back and allow you to pet it that way. if he won't do it, pass
see if it wants to tug on the leash while you are walking it. if it does, pass
it's bad if it gets nervous when a lot of people are around.
don't get a barker.
look for one that is sitting in the cage just looking sad. take him out walk him around. ask how the dog is around cats!!!! most dogs don't behave well around cats.
if you do your homework you will find a good pet. just don't take the first one that looks cute. there are plenty to choose from. all you have to do is make the right choice.

Get a golden lab puppy at the dog pound. I did and he is the best dog I've ever had. He's 11 now. He gets along with everyone.
I also have a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a lab/cross mutt.
All good dogs!!!

a golden retriever is great with kids and other animals. we have a golden and a beagle, and family living with us who have 2 dogs, and 2 cats. the beagle wanted to eat the cats until she figured out they fight back, but the golden was like oh, ok, kitty, where's the ball??? he walks right past them.
and if you get a puppy they will bond better, just be prepared for some chaos at first as puppies want to PLAY PLAY PLAY!!!!

You can mold any dog to your will. Especially if you save them from a shelter. It really depends on what you want to do with the dog. If you are active and want it to come and do everything with you get a energetic dog like a pit, boxer, or something like that. If you are a lazy then get a fat dog like a english bull dog

We have a German Shepherd who we got when my first cat was already ten years old.....they get along very well. We also have a Bischon-Shitzu that also gets along with our cat (Simese). Just recently we got yet another cat (8 yrs.old) and all four get along very well. Also, both of these breeds are family oriented and very well mannered. The dogs are very gentle with our small grandchildren.

I even have had countless huskies (5 to be appropriate). i admire all of them to products. to tell you the certainty, none of them have been ever very friendly to strangers. they do no longer look to be the friendliest canine. so, in case you desire something cuddly - do no longer choose for the husky. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, they are actually not mean the two. greater like detached. that being reported, they seem VERY intimidating (it is why we've been given our first one, we would have enjoyed a canine that regarded mean yet wasn't). my maximum present husky, nonetheless alive and kicking at 14 years previous) does not even lookup whilst somebody comes into the backyard. yet who would come into the backyard with a great great furry monster laying via the fence?
