I have just left a mcdojo after 2 years and am now training at a real school, My instructor is fantastic and has helped me build my fitness even though I felt like I was attending bootcamp somedays,(at the mcdojo I don't think I even broke into a sweat).. She has adjusted and greatly improved my technique.. (You pick up alot of bad habits when a place such as a mcdojo has a high instructor turnover rate and you learn style's from 9 different people).. Now I'm according to my Instructor I'm going through the Body conditioning stage, I am now kicking without shin pads (Lightly) and punching sawdust bags lighlty without gloves.. this combined with the rigourous workouts, I am going through the stage where I am feeling exhusted and all my joints are a bit achey, and some muscles that I didn't know I had feel tight.. I Love the sport and want to do my best, but really how long does this conditiong take while your body adjust's.. I never experienced this at the mcdojo??

Mauy thai is a brutal art, it takes its toll on all your body parts, i read the answers other poeple put and no body told you this answer and i think its the dead truth, your body never fully adjusts, there are going to be alot of days where you hurt and your sore, guess what thats when you need to get you butt back into the gym and train harder, push your self every day to get better, start taking glucosamine condroitant, it helps with joints and making them work better. Start to condition your shins on your own, get some slivers of bamboo or just a rolling pin and roll your shins not alot maybe once a day

that's great that you realized that a fad facility isn't the best way of self improvement.. good for you..

as for the conditioning, here are a few tips..

1/2 hr before you go to class take 200-400mg of ibuprophen(anti-inflamitory: advil/motrin), this will lessen the pain after you've finished your workout, and your muscles won't be so achy..

when you get home eat some protein rich foods(meats, beans, nuts) this will help with the muscle aches... it replaces the protein you just worked out of your body.. at least 1/2 after a workout..

see when you work your muscles what you're doing is causing tiny micro tears in the muscles, which is why you're sore the next day. these tears heal up by growing more muscle which makes them stronger and (depending on how you're training) bigger...

buy some epsom salts, or a sports soak that you can find at most local drug stores, soak in a warm bath with these in the bath water and they'll help soothe those tired muscles for the night..

they really help improve aches, pain and reduce bruising quickly and effectively..

it's not going to take long, eventually you'll begin noticing that you're not hurting as bad as what you're used to and your shins and fists will start getting better pain resistance, it will just take time, at the rate you're training i'd say give it another month to 6 weeks and you'll start noticing that you aren't hurting like before..

just follow some of the tricks i posted above and you'll feel better in no time..

Glad to see you stuck with it this will stand you in good stead for what is ahead; the question you ask differs between individuals and what you have done previously. Plus there is that X factor I also train at a gym so measure the weights and time spent on the rowing machine but some days it is just so much harder than others. Lot of factors to consider and difficult to measure things like worries about ... money ... relationships ... etc.

Goodluck with your training and above all enjoy it; it never gets 'easier' as you add more time/ weight/ reps as it gets easier

It took me 2 fighting seasons or inmy case training season untill I could take a baseball bat anywhere to my body but you find different parts of you will strengthen quicker hands and forearm then shins and thighs should be your first areas and get a peice of soft leather wrap it around some hard rubber and chew chew chew if you arent eating you should be chewing this will condition face. i'm probably wrong, but what you're describing sounds like overtraining to me. When i used muck around with weights training there was a period i was always tired and all my muscles hurt, and that was b/c my muscles hadn't recovered b4 i started to use them again, also i wasn't eating properly.

So my advice is train one day less a week until u feel u can step it up, or if u really enjoy it then, eat a lot more (esp protein), and vitamins (esp glucosamine), to recover faster.

Glad to hear you find something you really like.

It take anywhere between 3 to 9 months to get use to Muay Thai. However, even after you're use to it, sometime you will feel like your body is back to square one.

listen muay thai is a street fight with no ground skills it will take a while if ur not doing anything to keep ur body in shape drink lots of fluids eat more protein and take nice long hot showers after muay thai hope u feel better

hmmm... well, my boyfriend just got into that stuff, and he says it takes quite a while, like more than a year.
