Trying to style curly hair can make it worse. Have you noticed that the more you put a brush, curling iron, hair dryer, or whatever to it, the worse it gets? Curly hair has a mind of its own and to make it look good, you have to understand that mind. I bet you need better products, more moisture to contain those curls. Which way does it want to go naturally? If you got a product like "Be Curly" by Aveda and used that after a good conditioner, comb it out, shake upside down, and let it par where it wants, you would stoop fighting nature and get the look you want. Once you know how it wants to go, you can gently dry it with a diffuser and ionizing dryer, gently scrunching it with your hands in the direction it wants to curl. It's okay to dry the roots first as long as you don't overdo it. Let it pretty much dry by itself after using the product or a little gentle drying/scrunching. The more you work it, the worse it looks. When it is dry, rub a little "Brilliance", also by Aveda, in you hands and scrunch it again. It takes away the frizzies and gives you some control. The second you run a brush through it, you are screwed! Also, curly hair looks great in an updo.
Stop trying to make it go and do what it doesn't want to and work with it's natural way.

I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow and was going to buy one of those hair magazines, but I found the virtual hairstylist on ivillage and it really works. I paid $15, but I found some great curly cuts that look good with my face.(You upload a pic.) I've got it narrowed to five to choose from with my stylist tomorrow.
I was simply googling different hair cuts before deciding to spend the money, but I'm actually happy I spent the money and saw them with my actual face. The haircut I had just about decided on looked pretty bad on my face, it made my nose look big...
