Unless the enemy was marching down my street there's no way in hell I would let my son go to war. So my son would never see action in Iraq or any forgeign land because all the wars that the US have been involved in have been surgogate wars or wars to secure G.O.D. ( Guns Oil & Drugs).

I wouldn't want my son to go to any war, useless or otherwise. Unless paratroopers are landing on my roof, I don't want him fighting. He's my son! I love him and I couldn't stand to see him in a foreign land, supposedly fighting for "freedom." Yeah, right. Fighting for demagogues.

I will never want to see my children being send to war, yet kids have a mind of their own and end up making their own decisions when they become young adults. My fiance recently came from war and there is nothing worse than being apart from the people you love. I just so desperately wish this war will come to an end soon.

I am proud to say that my son is an American Soldier. It was his own choice. I am terrified to have him in the Army, but I am very proud that he wants to take a stand for what he believes is right instead of hiding in his pointless little life pretending that he is too good to fight for the rights which my husband and father secured for all.

Your statement is so far from the truth that it amazes me you ever made it though school. Your generalization that "all the wars that the US have been involved in have been surrogate wars or wars to secure " is baseless. I remember learning about the Revolutionary War (freedom?), WWI (democracy?), and WWII (Pearl Harbor, concentration camps?).

I know the hardships of war can tear a family apart, but the pride felt from doing the right thing is worthy of the attempt. I raised my son to not run from problems, but to face them and conquer them. I am sorry you don't have the backbone to fight for your own issues. You must live a meaningless life with nothing to show for your existence. At least soldiers know they are doing everything in their power to make the world a better place. They know right from wrong and do their best to correct the wrongs.

True that. It's never the parents saying "I want to send my kid off to war!!!!" It's the army recruiters who come to school, and then a few kids who are into that sort of thing go along with it and end up joining. And parents, realizing that they can't stop it try to think that maybe their son (or daughter) will become more mature and responsible. Yes, it's not a useful war, but not much you can do if you're against it except go out and vote.

If Bush and Cheney had to put their sons and daughters on the front line of combat, I'd bet they'd change their tune real quick.
So then, who are the real cowards?
I support the men and women who serve our country and I thank them all for keeping us safe. I just wish it was within our own boarders, thank you.

I would never be able to live with myself if my child died in a war that was pointless.

During Vietnam a lot of parents sent their children to Canada.
