Well, i was surprised in spanish literature the other day, when i discovered that Don Quijote sommits suicide via starvation, in order to meet his beloved Dulcinea. Many religions fast, in Christianity we do it usually to create a closer relationship with the Lord, as it is seen as a self-sacrifice, a sacrifice of one of the most vital things to a man, food. Now were a Christian to fast in an incorrect manner, he would harm his body, and thus violate a Biblical command of caring for one's body, which is a holy temple. Does anyone have any experiences dealing with fasting? Has anyone ever been in an actual state of starvation?

Fasting for a few days can really clear your head. This is why it is useful in prayer. It gives your body a chance to rest from it's work, and the blood becomes more pure so that your spiritual mind becomes more in-tuned to God. However, it is not a good idea if you have any diet conditions such as Diabetes or are on any medications, even aspirin.
Another form of fasting is turning away from evil. In this case though, you should not stop the fast ever.

You Really don't have to ever go over 3 Days on a Fast.
Always Drink Plenty of Water.
Have Doc check you out too.
During the Second Day (First Day gets rid of Available Food in Intestines, Stomache), TOXINS Trapped in the Fat Layers will come out FIRST.
You'll have Headaches, shakey knees, Montazuma's Revenge (haha) and if you Make it to the Third Day, you will feel like your in Heaven.
I tell you this because the TOXINS in some People could HARM Them, in extreme case, death.
Always see Doc befor you Start a Fast---If you have never Fasted befor.
Alot of toxins in this Society.

as Muslims we fast one month a year witch is from 29 to 30 days in the Islamic calender.
we don't fast all that day and night we just fast from don to sundown and most people eat 2 meals a day in this month.
fasting seems a lot more easier when you have stronger faith.
iv been fasting for many years and i can tell you this the first few days can be hard but your body seems to accommodate its self to your eating habits after some time.
and if i remember correctly Aristotle said once"only savages eat more then 2 meals a day" i don't know if he is right or wrong though but its his opinion. i only have 2 meals regularly in the fasting month.
this year i hardly felt i was fasting. it was so easy on me thank you Allah.

Dont worry about fasting for a long period of time. Jesus did it, so its not unbiblical.
Also, when you fast, you dont have to go on just water..you can give up somehting..Its not a total fast but it still brings you closer to the lord. For instance you could just give up meat. Or dairy products.
Catholics fast every year during lent, and are supposed to give up meat every friday of the year. Ive neverfasted to the point of starvation.

see thats what i do not get. I am 5'2 and if i were to fast for a month i would die. SOme of us would get really sick if we were to fast for a long period of time because we would lose weight we arent suppose to lose. I can see fasting for a day or so but i dont see the point of putting yourself in discomfort to get closer to the lord.

I have never fasted from food. But have had friends who have done it for short periods of time(days). And they will go on only water. Don't try a forty day fast that will not work as well for you as it did for Jesus.
