Oh, please. What's rude is to sneeze and expect someone to say "God bless you" every time you do.

The way that the "bless you" tradition started is in the middle ages. If you sneezed, it meant you were dying of the plague, so people would obviously want to say "bless you" to the dying people. It's a very courteous thing. Sometimes I don't say it or I'll say it quietly if someone else beats me to it. Yes, it is a contest... So if you're the normal designated "bless you"er and you stop, then it's really shifty. It may be annoying, but if there's a ton of them with it, they really need the "bless you"s. A lot goes unspoken in society, and a lot can be said by a simple "bless you". It's like holding a door open for someone, it may be annoying, but people will respect you for it.

saying bless you is a courtesy to the person sneezing , if in a group such as a classroom a couple of bless-you's should suffice. but the main thing that i'm concerned about is why you are all sneezing in this one classroom, that is the issue that needs to be addressed, and the sooner the better.

its not really rude to NOT say bless you.....but there is always somebody to say it...if not you. The term "Bless You" started when world was being consumed by influenza and people usually dies...since there was no cure back then. One of the first symptoms of influenza was sneezing and therefore other people said "Bless You" when they heard someone sneeze because they were convinced that the person is going to die soon.

So, after reading these answers, do you realllyyyy want your classmates to die from the plague or be eaten by a dragon?

At the beginning of the class, say,"Bless you to all who will sneeze in my presence during this period." That should cover your butt.

The reason why most people say god bless you when ppl sneeze is because your heart stops when you sneeze. its an old wise tail to help it start beating again. It said out of common courtesy.

Firstly, it is basic courtesy to say 'bless you'. Secondly, there is a legend to it. it was believed that when someone sneezes, a dragon or a monster will come to eat that person up, but if someone says 'bless you' the monster will not eat that person as he or she is blessed. if your classmate believes in this legend, he or she may be offended by you.

I wouldn't say its rude to not say "Bless You", but it does appear better to others if you do.

I don't think it's rude, especially in the circumstances you've described. It's kind of a silly tradition anyway.

In my culture, it is. It's just common courtesy. You wouldn't want people saying you're ignoring them. ;)
