Don't they still visit schools?
When I was a kid they came to the school, gave a short talk and handed out little bibles to all the kids.
They seemed decent enough people, just totally misguided in their nonsense beliefs.
Even then at about 11 years old I knew he was talking total cobblers, but it was interesting... in a fictional story kind of way.

I have met plenty of Gideons. The one that stick on my mind the most is a man named Floyd. He has such a heart for the Lord. He is getting up there in years but he is still faithful to do what God has called him to do. The gideons don't have a church that is specifically for them. They are an organization. A great organization.
They go all over. Many churches have gideons come and speak to the congregation every so often. They share testimonies of people that have gone into hotel rooms to kill themselves and as they went looking in the drawers for paper to write a suicide note, they find the bible, start reading it and get saved.
They take the bible to other countries, and share it in schools, businesses, hotels, hospitals, etc. The purpose of their organization is to put the gospel in places where it has never been and into hands that have never even touched one. They have a wonderful ministry

Yes. Representatives of the Gideons came every year to the schools where I taught, and gave every child a small red bound copy of the New Testament. Their aim is simply to spread a knowledge of the scriptures. You will find their website by typing Gideons in Google.

No, the Gideons do exist around here(U.S.) presently. A Gideon made a presentation during a recent worship service I was at. He did not impress me though.

I met two many many years ago, they came to my High School Assembly and handed out their little hotel bibles to a everyone there (oddly the only kids excused were the ones who got out of it for being too religious!). Needless to say by lunchtime there were several small bonfires going throughout the grounds.

One came to my school once to give out free Bibles. (I did go to a Church run school). He was an old man (say 65ish) and was quite jolly. I think he may have had a friend with him but I can't remember as it was 1994 or so when this happened.
I think they are not a very political group and don't really seek news coverage.

maximum people who're on the line in all probability are not fascinated in examining to be converted, regardless of if it relatively is by skill of the Bible or by skill of a e book by skill of an atheist author. people who discover the Bible inspirational might study the only of their lodge nightstand for applications of being inspired, yet on the full i discover maximum Gideon Bibles appear as if they're in mint situation. ;-) people often deliver their own examining textile with them while they're vacationing, in spite of the undeniable fact that it could additionally be a delightful ask your self to discover a desirable e book that has been (pardon the expression) left in the back of. particularly than polemical arguments with regard to the incidence of atheism and inferiority of religion, nonetheless, i might advise in basic terms offering "inspirational" textile from a humanistic attitude--the kind of light examining maximum return and forth-weary all and sundry is probably to tutor to while relaxing interior the lodge room. For that remember, rather of utilising lodge rooms to argue religious and philosophical ideals, in basic terms be a sturdy neighbor and go away any sturdy e book appropriate to pass directly to random strangers: a sturdy novel, a e book of essays, notion from traditions different than fundamentalist Christianity, easy examining a pair of undertaking of activity including activities or arts, etc. on the full, as somebody who isn't an atheist yet respects that it relatively is in basic terms one extra standpoint in our in reality agnostic human situation, i'm open to atheists expressing and sharing their a number of perspectives, yet to no longer being preached at as some style of counter-fundamentalism. An atheist corporation doing the former, yet no longer the latter, may well be very welcome to me. As for something of usa... properly, this is yet another remember.
