My friend really likes her friend's older brother. He's just a few years older than her, and she kind of knows him. More of aquaintances, really. She wants to write him a letter to ask him out, but she doesn't want to just put it bluntly, "Will you go out with me?".
How else can she put it?

First of all tell her not to write a letter. It'll be much better if she asks him in person or on the phone. It's a simple as saying "I was just wondering if you wanted to go out sometime"

She can just write him a note saying that You want to go out with me if you want

She could say, 'Hello it's [insert name here] and i feel that our relationship needs to go a bit further. I mean i have romantic feelings for you. If you feel the same would you like to go out sometime?'

just walk up to him and flash him a big smile and ask him out. its so much easier than writing a note.
