Ravens are more than just a type of Crow. They are in the same family but are larger in every aspect and can be differentiated in flight by their spade-shaped tail. Size can't always be used as a comparison though since there are many different sub-species that vary in size.

Intelligence wise, Ravens surpass Crows on many levels. They can speak, yes... in their own language. Each group has its own dialect they use to communicate in order to identify themselves as a member of the flock.

If a Raven is imprinted on a human at a young age, they will learn to talk at about the level of a human child. Although their vocabulary might be limited, each word has its own meaning and understanding to the bird.

Ravens are also excellent problem solvers. They are capable of using tools and often work in groups in order to achieve a goal. They are capable of solving problems Crows are not.

Crows and ravens are the two perching birds (passerines) interior the corvid relatives (relatives - Corvidae, subfamily - Corvinae, tribe - Corvini). the different individuals of this tribe are the jays, floor jays, magpies, treepies, jackdaws, and choughs. Crows and ravens are individuals of the subgenus Corvus. Madge and Burn checklist 40 5 species. Crows are smaller, sleeker, greater omnivorous, and tend to have oblong-shaped tails. Ravens have wedge-shaped tails, heavier builds, enormously carnivorous diets, and greater well-known throat hackles (long, skinny feathers on the throat, raised in demonstrate). Many are domestically consumer-friendly, yet some island species, like the Hawaiian crow or Alala, are enormously endangered. Ravens are the main important perching birds, with the thick-billed raven of Ethiopia achieving sixty 4 cm and 1500 g. the yank raven runs around 900 g, approximately double the dimensions of an American crow, which runs 39-40 9 cm and an consumer-friendly of 438 to 458 g.
