It depends on what part of Santa Monica. Near SMC is not that great. But if you live near the beach on, I think it's Ocean Ave., there are some nice places there. Are you renting or buing? Also, the area around Montana Ave. is very nice. Avoid Santa Monica Blvd. inland a couple of miles from the beach. I think the cross streets in that area are Harvard and Yale. California and Arizona Aves. are nice, as I remember. It's been a few years since I lived in L.A., but this is what I remember. Also, if you can afford one of those high rise condos right on PCH, those are very nice! Hope this helps. Santa monica, like much of L.A. has bad areas right next to good areas. If you just drive around, you can tell what's cool and what isn't.

Oh, and I wouldn't rate SM as anything like Compton. But very close to SM is Venice Beach, and that's full of gangs. If you can afford an expensive house, there are some nice ones in SM, especially like the Montana Ave. area. SM is not as nice as Beverly Hills, but parts of it can be. If you ask me, my favorite parts of L.A. are West Hollywood and Los Feliz. Both of which will be a little bit of a drive if you are attending SMC.

you're in Santa Barbara so which you're already familiar with intense rents. Rents are very intense in Santa Monica. i know SM college has a circulate association with UCLA. i'm uncertain approximately USC, yet you will possibly be able to correctly be good. sturdy success!
