It is called Copraphagia. They often enjoy it because of what cats eat. You can not always break them of this. I have one dog who likes one of my other dog's stool's in particular and i have tried it all and he wont stop. He doesnt care for any from the other dogs. Maybe this site will help you.

All k-9's are predators and scavengers. As such, they rely on there incredible sense of smell to locate both prey and/or a dead (and decomposing) animal. cat "stool" is waste matter and decomposing cat food, made up mostly of processed meat of some kind. When dogs smell this it triggers a scavenger response causing them to give it a try.

It is rather gross to think about and you probably don't want a smooch from your puppy if he is dinning from the litter box, but it normally causes no harm to the dog unless he is sick or if the cat is medicated in some way. However, you should make an effort to limit or eliminate this behavior.

My husky does too but the border collie doesn't. I think the cat (6 month old) does not fully digest the cat food and the dog likes cat food more than dog food. As any dog does but they get really fat quick on cat food. The dog does not eat from the adult cat litter box. But then again that is a battery powered automatic cleaner. Maybe that is your answer. If it cleans itself often enough there wouldn't be anything there for it to eat.

I have never seen a dog that if given the chance would not eat cat poop. If they can get near it, they will eat it. I guess it tastes good to them. Aside from potty mouth that they will kiss you with, the only drawback to this is if the cat has parasites they could be transferred to the dog. The only thing you can do is try to catch her in the act and very firmly tell her no. The other alternative is to move the litter box to where the cat can get to it and she can't.
Good luck.

Mum always taught me that if a dog eats pooh, it's usually because their not getting enough nutrients from their own food, or like others have pointed out, it smells the richness in your cat's stools, does she eat the cat food?
Maybe try your dog with a different brand of food, a little more rich (maybe in gravey) Without getting inside a dog's head, I dont we can really know why they do it. Their sense of smell is so much different to a humans, what we think stinks, is like strawberries and ice-cream to a dog.

Dogs for some odd reason like the taste of fecal matter. This is not pertaining to just your dog. Try to keep your cats litter box in an area your dog can't reach. I wish you good luck.

Aren't dogs gross? When my dog used to do that we would say she was "cleaning the catbox". I know dogs like to eat catfood so I would guess that the cat's poop tastes like catfood. Yuck. I would say that unless the cat has worms or some other parasitic infection, it is more disgusting than unhealthy. Just don't kiss her on the lips.

It is a problem with all breeds of dogs. Vet told me that my dog was properly fed and had the right veterinarian maintenance.
His answer was "He just probably likes it" GROSS

there is now a gate up so he cannot "snack" on his favorite treat.
