When I stretch for flexibility, I generally stretch for 15-30 seconds depending on the stretch. I'm not really sure on what the optimal stretching time is, as some sources which I've read have said 15 seconds, some have said 30 seconds, while some even say one minute.

What's really important, however, is making sure that the stretching is done in a fluid motion. Bouncing while stretching can be harmful to your muscles!

At least 30 seconds.

The Right Way to Stretch

* Breathe easily
* Relax
* Tune into your body
* Focus on muscles and joints being stretched
* Feel the stretch
* Be guided by the feel of the stretch
* No bouncing!
* No pain!
